NXT Level is a City of San Antonio program partnered with Communities in Schools (CIS) and Goodwill Industries. The program serves young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 who are disconnected from education, work, and major societal support systems.

We are committed to providing a safe space where every 16 to 24-year-olds achieves their personal, educational, and/or career goals.

We connect each participant with a life and education/career coach. Coaches offer ongoing case management, counseling, life skills, and referrals to community partners with demonstrated success.

Anyone between the ages of 16-24 who resides in San Antonio qualifies for the services and can either schedule an appointment or walk in to meet with a NXT Level coach.

The Child Care Services (CCS) division of the City of San Antonio provides child care and provider management services for Bexar County, and 12 surrounding areas including Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, McMullen, Medina, and Wilson.

The Child Care Services Program provides child care subsidies to an average of 9,000 children per day through more than 600 local child care providers. Child care services are available for both full and part-time care for qualifying families. Qualified families may encounter a waiting period for service availability.

To qualify for CCS, individuals must meet certain criteria:

  • Child(ren) must be under 13 years of age (Under 19 years of age for a child with disabilities)Families income must not exceed 85% of the state median income (see Income Eligibility Guidelines)
  • A single parent working or in training/school at least 25 hours per week or
  • A two-parent household with both parents working or in training/school, with each parent averaging 25 hours per week

Those eligible for child care assistance include:

  • Parents who are receiving Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)
  • Parents who have recently stopped receiving TANF benefits because of earned income
  • Parents with low incomes who need help paying for child care so they can continue to work or attend school
  • Teen parents from low-income families who need child care to attend school
  • Parents with low incomes who have children with disabilities
  • Parents who meet the definition of experiencing homelessness

"Our City Cares” funding is allocated by City Council to assist San Antonio residents with short term child care during an emergency or extenuating circumstance.

“Our City Cares” funding is allocated by City Council to assist San Antonio residents with short-term child care during an emergency or extenuating circumstance.

Applicant must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for services:

  • Be at risk of losing permanent housing (eviction) due to loss of work, household income, or medical emergency. Applicant must provide supporting documentation.
  • Be a victim of domestic violence with supporting documentation such as a restraining order or police report.
  • Suddenly become a guardian of a child or children due to the death, abandonment, and/or incarceration of parents. Applicant must provide supporting documentation.
  • Have extenuating circumstances, that negatively impact or disrupt an individual’s ability to obtain or maintain stable childcare services, such as, but not limited to: residential fire, domestic violence, natural disaster, emergency medical treatment, and/or hospitalization.

Applicant must provide supporting documentation, including proof of residency within a San Antonio City Council District.

Based on funding availability, Our City Cares may be able to provide 2-3 weeks of care.

The City of San Antonio provides scholarship assistance through the San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP) at participating colleges and universities.

The San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP) offers the SAEP Scholarship to students at 36 SAEP partner high schools. Road to Success (R2S) College Access and Success Advisors at each high school will guide students to meet the scholarship eligibility criteria.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

  • Sign the Student Commitment to College form
  • Graduate with an overall 95% attendance rate
  • Graduate with an overall 80% grade average
  • Graduate from a participating high school
  • Demonstrate financial need (FAFSA or TASFA required)
  • Enroll full-time at a participating college or university

The Official WIC (Women, Infants, Children) program is available to low to moderate income pregnant women, recently delivered women, breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk. Fathers can also bring their children to apply for WIC. You may apply for WIC if you are working or unemployed.
