Pre-K 4 SA (Government )

Pre-K 4 SA is a comprehensive early childhood initiative aimed at changing the educational and workforce trajectory of San Antonio in one generation.

Pre-K 4 SA offers full-day prekindergarten for pre-schoolers living in the City of San Antonio.

Pre-K 4 SA is free for qualifying students and also accepts tuition-paying students.

Pre-K 4 SA has four Education Centers located throughout the city. The Pre-K 4 SA Professional Learning program provides prekindergarten through third-grade educators in San Antonio with complementary continuing education to support best practice instruction to help every child in San Antonio excel.

The Pre-K 4 SA Competitive Grants program provides more than $4 million in funding annually to increase the quality and access to early childhood programs throughout San Antonio.

Pre-K 4 SA understands that you want professional learning that helps you make a powerful impact on children’s lives. That’s why we design every workshop, seminar, and coaching session to produce the maximum takeaway and beneficial “Aha!” moments specifically for early childhood educators.

The Professional Learning Department at Pre-K 4 SA consists of 16 learning specialists dedicated to mentoring and educating early childhood education teachers, leaders, coaches, and specialists.

Our purpose is to increase the number of highly skilled Pre-K through 3rd-grade educators in San Antonio, improve teacher credentialing, serve as the pipeline for ECE leadership, and increase the number of accredited ECE Centers in the city.

For the 2022-2023 school year, Pre-K 4 SA is expanding to also include three-year-olds. All children born between Sept 2, 2017, and Sept 1, 2019, are now age-eligible.

Our high-quality prekindergarten program builds a strong foundation for San Antonio's youngest learners.

FULL-DAY PROGRAM

  • Open from 7:15 AM - 6:00 PM.
  • Students are in class from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
  • Extended daycare begins at 7:15 AM, and after-school care is provided from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

LEARN AND PLAY

  • The curriculum is developmentally appropriate, engaging, and based on students' interests and needs.
  • Technology: Smart Boards and iPads in every classroom
  • Building skills: Self-directed, active learning to build critical thinking and leadership skills

NUTRITION

  • Healthy meals: breakfast, lunch, and two snacks are included. All meals are reviewed by a certified/licensed nutritionist.
  • Focus on nutrition: meals introduce kids to healthy options like fruits and vegetables.
  • Learning opportunities: professionals provide workshops for students and families.

TRANSPORTATION

  • Arrive early: state-of-the-art buses with built-in car seats
  • Convenient for families: bus depots are located at safe community centers in San Antonio
  • Staff supervision: students are supervised by a minimum of two staff members per bus.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

  • Partner organizations: learning opportunities with The DoSeum, San Antonio Museum of Art, HEB, and UTSA
  • City explorations feature weekend visits to San Antonio sites to learn in the community.

FAMILY RESOURCES
