LISC San Antonio (Nonprofit )

LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corp) San Antonio is dedicated to helping underserved neighborhoods in San Antonio become healthy communities of choice—good places to live, do business, work, and raise families. We collaborate with local partners to create economic opportunity and improve the overall quality of life by investing in:

  • Affordable housing
  • Businesses and jobs
  • Community safety
  • Health and wellness
  • Education, both for youth and adults
  • Family financial stability
  • Neighborhood-based organizations

In addition to providing grants, loans, and equity, we also serve as an ally, community convener, policy advocate, and project catalyst, listening to and amplifying local voices and grassroots leadership so that all San Antonians can participate in our region’s prosperity.

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are small, naturally affordable, and climate-friendly homes tucked discreetly within residential neighborhoods.

LISC is excited to help make (ADUs) more broadly available as a housing choice for San Antonians. This free online guide includes:

  • What are ADUs?
    • Types of ADUs
  • The Many Benefits of ADUs
  • The National Resurgence of ADUs
    • Re-legalizing ADUs
  • Financing an ADU
  • ADU Education
  • Can I build an ADU?
    • Improving the Code
    • City of San Antonio Code Table

They’re a great match for smaller households and can be created through basement or garage conversions, additions, or new construction of backyard tiny homes.

ADUs can be paired with affordable housing programs to serve low-income families, other vulnerable populations, and first-time homeowners.

(This guidebook will be updated periodically to reflect changes to the City’s unified development code UDC). Click here to learn about
