Successful treatment of alcoholism and other drug addictions at La Hacienda Treatment Center is rooted in the immersion of a 12-step Program and solid counseling administered by a competent and empathetic staff.

At La Hacienda, we believe that for an individual with alcohol or drug addiction problems to find sobriety the following must be achieved:

  • Correction of distorted thinking and breakdown of the denial system
  • Recognition of the need for change; acceptance of the tools for change
  • Motivation to utilize these tools daily

To attain this end, La Hacienda’s core recovery program provides several therapeutic modalities to both educate the patient and allow the processing of painful feelings in a nurturing environment.

Treatment modalities include:

  • Individual counseling
  • Group counseling
  • Didactic groups
  • Therapeutic activities Including a ROPES course
  • Big Book Studies
  • Family program
  • On- and off-campus 12-Step meetings
  • Interactive therapeutic milieu

We offer optional programming for those who desire to incorporate Christian beliefs into their recovery.

Many Christians struggle alone with chemical dependency for fear of rejection. At La Hacienda, we recognize addiction as a serious disease, rather than moral inadequacy, that affects the mind, body, and spirit. For those who desire to incorporate their Christian faith into their recovery, group and individual counseling is provided which includes recognition of the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

Those patients who desire to participate in the Christian focus groups do so in addition to all other programming. Our clinical staff includes a minister who facilitates five groups each week.

These special counseling groups explore:

  • Biblical scripture and the relationship to the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous
  • The spiritual nature of human relationships
  • The importance of forgiveness in healing
  • Other essential components of spirituality in recovery
  • Gaining insight into the important aspects of recovery, and learning how it interrelates with Christian faith, helps our patients experience renewed hope from their core beliefs.

Visitation time is reserved for those wishing to visit with a pastor or priest. Our staff minister is available for individual counseling and assistance for patients, family members, and area pastors, as requested.

Co-occurring disorders happen when a person has a substance use disorder at the same time as a mental health disorder.

While commonly used to refer to the combination of substance use and mental disorders, the term can also refer to other combinations of disorders, such as a medical condition and substance abuse, or a mood disorder and substance abuse.

Understanding addiction and co-occurring disorders is part of what makes La Hacienda Treatment Center unique. Our medical and clinical staff screen for both substance use disorder and co-occurring mental illness, then prepare an integrated treatment plan based on the individual patient.

La Hacienda is the place to initiate sobriety and to learn to stay sober. Within 3-5 weeks of entering our comprehensive treatment program, patients have completed most phases of residential treatment, including detoxification, individual counseling, group therapy, family therapy, specialized classes, activities therapy, and detailed instruction in 12 Step application.

For 50 years, individuals and families seeking to improve their lives have come to our serene campus to heal and join the growing number of those who have successfully left behind their addictions.

Young people in their late teens and early twenties suffering from substance use disorders still have the chance to change course and achieve successful recovery.

La Hacienda Treatment Center recognizes that ending substance abuse is especially important for young adults who still have most of their lives ahead of them.

That’s why we have a substance abuse treatment program just for the age group and support collegiate recovery programs to help those in college receive recovery support services.

What do Collegiate Recovery Programs Include?

Collegiate recovery programs, often operating under the school’s Department of Student Affairs, include these recovery resources:

  • Recovery Advocacy
  • On-campus 12-step meetings
  • A drop-in safe space

  • Professional counseling in recovery management

Medical detoxification helps the body rid itself of drugs or alcohol while treating the withdrawal symptoms. Freed of the substances’ immediate impact, the patient can begin to work on controlling drug cravings or ongoing desires to drink.

La Hacienda Treatment Center functions as a residential treatment program providing a Special Care Unit for medical detoxification, individual therapy, daily 12-step meetings, total wellness counseling, therapeutic activities, fellowship, and long-term recovery planning and follow-up.

Upon admission, our medical and clinical staff, under the direction of La Hacienda’s medical director, comprehensively assess each patient’s condition–including co-occurring medical conditions– and prepare an individualized treatment plan for them.

We are committed to the concept that each patient is different and requires individualized levels and modalities of care.

The Recovering Professionals Group at La Hacienda Treatment Center is made up of patients with vocations that require them to be licensed or certified by a state board or other authority. They include doctors, lawyers, teachers, airline crew members, engineers, counselors, and other professionals.

In addition to licensing or certification requirements for their fields, these professionals frequently share leadership functions or roles that impact the lives of others. Helping them into recovery not only benefits the patient but frequently aids those with whom they serve as well.

La Hacienda enhances the relapsed patient’s potential for long-term sobriety through the specialized and focused treatment of our Relapse Program.

Our experience teaches us that relapse is a process – recognizable, preventable, and treatable. Before the recovering person starts to use alcohol or other drugs again, there is a pattern of behavior that starts with the return of denial and is marked by symptoms of isolation, depression, high levels of stress, and impaired judgment.

La Hacienda’s Relapse Program provides specialized education and process groups that focus on the specific problematic issues the patient is presenting.

Those who have relapsed can explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that contributed to their relapse and identify future threats to recovery. Patients learn to identify mistaken beliefs about relapse and their justifications and relapse warning signs. They also work through the shame, guilt, and fear associated with having been on the road to recovery and then relapsing.

We have found that many of our patients who have relapsed have lost their focus on the 12 Steps. La Hacienda emphasizes step work and offers assistance to these patients in moving beyond their previous “stuck points”. Patients help develop their own continuing care plans and are encouraged to find counselors and 12-step sponsors who are compatible with relapse prevention concepts.

La Hacienda provides a variety of therapeutic activities including:

  • Weight room
  • Swimming pool
  • Gymnasium
  • ROPES course
  • Walking trail

The experiential therapy of our ROPES course works to focus on the all-important issues of:

  • Trust
  • Communication
  • Decision-making
  • Cooperation among group members

The confidence, encouragement, and self-awareness derived from these challenges are internalized by the individual patient and then transferred to other life situations outside of treatment. Self-respect and trust are two of the benefits that patients acquire from the ROPES course.
