The mission of this ministry is to provide support and hope in the power of prayer through the distribution of special prayer blankets to those who are very sick and/or hospitalized, to ICU, cancer, and children patients at Santa Rosa Hospital, to military family members (U.S. and abroad), to the elderly homebound of our parish, and many different community organizations.

Volunteers pray the rosary and offer prayer intentions for the recipients as the blankets are made. No sewing is required. This ministry is a parish-wide service opportunity.

Interested volunteers may contact Vivian Cantu at 210-378-5678 or [email protected].

We begin with a special prayer to bless our efforts. Members turn in projects, share needs, a reading of thank you notes and review of the following month distribution of shawls is given. All ladies are invited to have input, and we are thinking of adding an invitation to people who sew who would like to create prayer blankets as well.

A small group sent to visit the facility for Threads of Love, and many of the members are creating blankets and garments for the premature babies needs that are addressed through this program.

We address the needs of Homebound, Stephen Ministry, Cancer Support, Bereavement, Divorced and Separated.

We are a group of women (and one man) who sew items for our Outreach program and occasionally for the needs of the parish, through our knowledge, experience, and efforts.

The ability to sew is not a requirement but it helps! We gather weekly to share and laugh, while our hands accomplish tasks. Mostly, we provide pillows to various shelters and agencies in San Antonio, for adults and children, to sleep or to hug.

We also work on baby blankets, lap quilts, cosmetic and toiletry bags, Christmas stockings, laundry bags. The items vary but the purpose is the same – to help others in need, through fabric.

If you might be interested in this type of activity, come check us out and see for yourself. We want to meet you – new faces and ideas are good. No commitment, no obligations, and no charge!

We survive only with donations of fabric, some thread, pillow stuffing, quilt batting, etc. Of course, cash or gift cards are greatly appreciated. For health reasons, we cannot accept used pillows.

There’s no day like Valentine’s Day to make someone special know how you feel about them. Valentine’s day can be a unique opportunity to let the foster youth know how much they are loved.

At Day 1 Bags, we partner with the 10,000 enrolled students at Boerne ISD to deliver LOVE! We completed our 3rd annual #LoveDelivered Campaign, where the students donated thousands of Valentine’s Cards, Fuzzy Socks, Candy, and Warm Blankets and distributed them to local assisted living facilities and foster youth agencies. We want our lonely, forgotten, and isolated seniors and foster youth to know that we LOVE them – every day!

Our annual Adopt a High School Senior from Foster Care Campaign is one of the most ambitious and necessary initiatives we run at Day 1 Bags.

We are dedicated to finding and supplying every single foster child who is graduating from high school with a high-quality duffle bag, rolling backpack, hand-stitched quilt, stainless steel water bottle, a $100 gift card, and so many more gifts.

Foster youth are significantly less likely to graduate high school and finish their education based on individuals who care for one or two parents—less than 50% of all foster youth graduate with a high school diploma. Even then, those who do graduate are not given the proper celebrations and gifts they deserve. Many haven’t the family or community to celebrate their accomplishments.

This simple fact is precious and is why we have created the Adopt a Senior Campaign. With your help, we can ensure that every senior in Texas (or your current state) has their foster seniors graduating with the necessary supplies to help them in their future college, trade, or career. Please visit the link below to visit our information Facebook page.

Mission work is one of the founding principles of our church, and there are many ways to get involved!

Little Free Food Pantry

What started as the Eagle Scout project of one of our highschoolers has grown into a service that provides critical aid to our community. Our Little Free Pantry makes deliveries every other week to several families in the area, and also keeps a pantry stocked in our partnered Hill Country MHDD clinic for clients.

Act II Sewing

Act II Sewing is a group of ladies who meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 9:30am to sew for a good cause. Some of their regular projects are stuffed animals for St. Judes Children’s Home, Presbyterian Children’s Home, and other organizations and occasions where children might need a bit of comfort.

They make clothing protectors, lap blankets, shawls, walker bags, and more for nursing home residents, hospice patients, and Meals on Wheels recipients. You don’t need to be skilled at sewing to help make these projects and more, just come by and lend a hand.

Kids Hope

Kids Hope is a national non-profit organization that partners young students in need with mentors from a local church, who provide a one-on-one relationship dedicated to supporting their growth.

Mentors meet with their student once a week for one hour, helping with homework, providing a listening ear, and being a steady source of support. Canyon Lake Presbyterian Church has been partnered with Kids Hope since 1998. If you would like to be a mentor or a prayer partner, please contact us to learn more.

Partnership with Mental Health Clinic

We are partnered with the Canyon Lake branch of the Hill Country Mental Health and Develpomental Disability Center. The fully staffed mental health clinic operates full-time out of our Fellowship Hall and provides mental health, individual developmental disability, and substance abuse services to our community. If you are in need or wish to learn more, go to their website at https://www.hillcountry.org/services/canyon-lake-mh-center/ or call their office at 830-387-5995.

Donations

In addition to all of the more hands on work we do at Canyon Lake Presbyterian Church, we make donations to many organizations in our local community and the larger world. These include, but are not limited to:

  • CRRC Food Pantry
  • John Knox Ranch
  • Canyon Lake Meals on Wheels
  • Mission Presbytery
  • Mo-Ranch
  • Presbyterian Church USA
  • Presbyterian Disaster Assistance
  • CARE of Canyon Lake

The Prayer Blanket Ministry began at St. Stanislaus in July of 2005. This ministry involves the sewing of lap-size blankets and pillow cases that are given to many people who are either sick or going through extremely difficult times in their life.

Many caring volunteers commit to prayer for the recipient as they are fulfilling their part in the construction of the blanket. Each month these blankets are taken to where they are prayed over again and blessed by a priest.

Every person who receives a prayer blanket is lifted up in prayer weekly. The prayer blanket is a symbol of a faith sharing community covering of prayer for the individual who receives it.

For more information or to request a Prayer Blanket contact Pat Koehler or the Parish Office (830) 460-4712.
