Youth Awareness Initiative

The “Rise UP/Speak UP” Risk Awareness Program is the first of its kind that aims to educate young people about how drinking can affect their lives. The idea was inspired by the “Red Ribbon Drug-Free Week” presented every October in elementary schools nationwide.

We have developed three distinctly different age-appropriate risk awareness programs to meet the needs of today’s youth.

K-5
Elementary School
Risk Awareness through interactive skits and costumed characters.

6-8
Middle School
Live Victim Impact Panel speakers to form connections to the reality of drugs.

9-12
High School
Staged DWI accident at high school parking lots involving theater students to play victims and real first responders

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Eating Recovery Center empowers patients to take ownership of their recovery and become active participants in their lives. Our Intensive Outpatient program is a flexible eating disorder treatment program that allows patients to work, go to school, or care for children during the day and sleep at home at night.

In IOP, patients are in treatment up to three days per week for up to 9 hours per week. Programming includes nutritional counseling, individual therapy, family therapy, supported meals, and more.

Experienced professionals employ several therapeutic interventions in IOP, including:

  • Family-Centered Treatment
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive-behavioral treatment (CBT)

The program also incorporates core recovery principles, values, mindfulness, and connectedness.

The IOP can serve as a step-down level of care, helping to foster a positive transition into activities of daily living for adults upon discharging from our Residential or Partial Hospitalization programs. IOP can also be leveraged as a direct-admit level of care for adult patients requiring a higher level of care from an outpatient setting - allowing them to remain engaged with their lives.

What to Expect in Our Intensive Outpatient Program:

Typically, patients who are participating in our intensive outpatient program will come to our center for sessions several times a week for two to four hours at a time. They might live at home while in treatment, or they might live in a sober living residence. Sober living is ideal for patients whose living environments are not stable or supportive of recovery. In sober living, residents pledge to maintain sobriety and work on their recovery while living in a structured environment.

Patients receive care and therapies that are best suited to their individual needs as part of a personal treatment plan based on the 12-step philosophy. This approach involves an accurate diagnosis, advanced modalities of treatment, and a supportive, therapeutic environment.

Relapse prevention is the biggest focus of intensive outpatient program treatment, just as it is for inpatient residential programs. We help our patients avoid relapse by creating personalized plans to address the triggers that could lead to drug and alcohol use.

For those who are battling serious addictions to heroin or alcohol, Texas residential drug and alcohol treatment is often the best option for recovery. This form of treatment immerses patients fully in recovery, providing time and space from the daily pressures of home to properly heal, develop self-confidence, and re-learn important life skills.

Elements typically incorporated into daily life in our Texas residential drug and alcohol treatment program include:

  • Individual Counseling – Work through the underlying causes of addiction through one-on-one sessions
  • Group Therapy – Gain perspective and build a network of support in sessions with your peers
  • Spiritual counseling – Addiction affects both the body and the mind, and spiritual counseling can help you heal
  • Dual Diagnosis – Treatment for co-occurring disorders, such as depression, trauma, or anxiety
  • 12-Step Program – Find accountability and support in structured meetings
  • Education Program – Learn how addiction affects both individuals and the community
  • Family Therapy – Rebuild family connections through sessions with a therapist

The world that today’s adolescent lives in, is far more stressful but offers more freedom than any time in the history of our world. As a result we are seeing an entire generation being destroyed due to a lack of addressing the problem of addiction in the hopes that our children will “grow out of this phase” in their lives. We are working with teens in San Antonio and the surrounding area and the problem is staggering!

The program at Alamo City Treatment Services focuses on serving 14 through 17 year olds. We provide individual and family counseling. Our fees are designed to provide accessible treatment for every income. Family participation is strongly encouraged. We have found that the more a family is involved, the more successful the outcome.

If you or family member have a problem with an addiction, please call us at 210-541-8400. Some can stop on their own, but the fix is only temporary. Addiction is a physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual problem that rarely goes away. There is a solution and we want to help. Don’t struggle alone anymore. Let us help you find the answer with a proven solution that works.

Adolescent Recovery Counseling is private pay only.

SACADA provides recovery coaching and support services to individuals with or at risk of alcohol and drug problems by providing clients both online and face-to-face options to connect with a Peer Recovery Support Specialist.

Our program supports both adult males and females in Bexar and the surrounding counties to increase the prevalence and quality of long-term recovery from substance use disorders. Recovery Coaches can help individuals establish linkages with community organizations that can assist them in accomplishing their long-term life goals. Coaches provide role modeling and mentoring for guiding individuals to find their pathway to recovery.

Our recovery grants also allow for targeted services. Recovery Coaches provide recovery support services to the general community, work alongside EMS and other first responders to assist persons who overdose using opioids, collaborate with various specialty courts to provide recovery coaching, and with hospital departments that help new moms obtain recovery support services.

Telephonic and virtual recovery support is available from Monday-Friday 7:00 AM-8:00 PM.

Recovery Support Groups via Zoom are held daily Monday-Friday 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

If not properly treated, substance abuse will result in serious health, relationship, employment, scholastic and legal ramifications. At San Antonio Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, we believe in wellness and leading a recovered life. We also understand that the road to recovery and sobriety is a long one and that abstaining from alcohol or drug use is just one part of what needs to change in the person. By engaging in our comprehensive addiction treatment program, adolescents and adults who are struggling with substance abuse and addiction can develop the skills needed to not only break the cycle of addiction but to address the entirety of their lives and engage in what must change to maintain life-long happiness and sobriety.
