The first step on your journey to recovery is withdrawal. During this process, as drugs and alcohol leave your body, you might experience painful or uncomfortable physical symptoms. It’s crucial to go through withdrawal under the supervision of a medical team. Some individuals try to quit drinking or using drugs all at once, which can be dangerous. Withdrawal from alcohol, heroin, and benzodiazepines such as Xanax or Valium can lead to severe and life-threatening symptoms if not done carefully.

Throughout an addiction, the brain and body become used to the presence of the addictive chemical. Over time, the user’s tolerance increases, which drives them to use more of the substance more often to reach the same high. 

Physical dependence, however, is a two-sided coin. Just as it fuels the addiction, it also hurts the user when they stop using their substance of choice. When the addictive chemical is no longer present, the body exhibits multiple withdrawal symptoms. This is especially true for those who have used the drug for a long time or in particularly heavy doses. For these users, detox is a life-saver; withdrawal symptoms for these users can cause death if the user is not supervised.

What to Expect in Our Intensive Outpatient Program:

Typically, patients who are participating in our intensive outpatient program will come to our center for sessions several times a week for two to four hours at a time. They might live at home while in treatment, or they might live in a sober living residence. Sober living is ideal for patients whose living environments are not stable or supportive of recovery. In sober living, residents pledge to maintain sobriety and work on their recovery while living in a structured environment.

Patients receive care and therapies that are best suited to their individual needs as part of a personal treatment plan based on the 12-step philosophy. This approach involves an accurate diagnosis, advanced modalities of treatment, and a supportive, therapeutic environment.

Relapse prevention is the biggest focus of intensive outpatient program treatment, just as it is for inpatient residential programs. We help our patients avoid relapse by creating personalized plans to address the triggers that could lead to drug and alcohol use.

Rise Inspire Academy provides a safe, supportive recovery and academic environment that places high school students on a trajectory toward a life of purpose and value.

Family members of students at RIA will also have access to peer groups and counseling. This "community of recovery" model includes the instructional staff as well, who will be equipped with strategies and tools to ensure a total recovery experience for our scholars.

Students commonly relapse when they re-enter the same environment that doesn't support their recovery. As an experienced nonprofit, we also understand why young people struggle with substance-use disorder. Rise Inspire Academy directly addresses these challenges by bringing the common goals of substance use recovery and high school graduation to one place.

To achieve these outcomes, we have implemented our three-legged stool approach: Peer Groups, Engaging Academics, and Recovery Community. At the intersection of the three legs are our scholars who must first commit to taking a seat. Rise Recovery offers 5 recovery groups on the Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP) model, each tailored to a particular age range and need:

• New Generations is offered to youth, ages 9-17, whose family member or loved one has substance use disorder.
• Younger Group is offered to youth, ages 12-17, with substance use disorder.
• Young Adult Group is offered to young adults in college, ages 18-35, with substance use disorder.
• Older Group is offered to adults, ages 18 and over, with substance use disorder.
• Family Group is offered to adults, 18 and over, whose family member or loved one has a substance use disorder.

Meetings follow a group format where participants share their experiences, which strengthens relationships within the group and provides an environment that encourages vulnerability and honesty. When groups meet simultaneously, each group meets in a separate room.

Teens

The E-motion intensive outpatient therapy process for teens is designed to capitalize on the incredible plasticity of the adolescent brain. Our protocols that ignite and support neuroplasticity are especially effective with this population.

Teenagers in our group process learn to identify their individual needs and recognize their potential. Through this program, teens learn to understand themselves better, build effective communication skills, and develop positive coping strategies. The therapy process includes individualized assessments and regularly scheduled group sessions that provide a safe space for teens to share their experiences and receive support from peers and therapists.

We designed the therapeutic techniques used in the group sessions to help teens explore, identify, and manage their thoughts and feelings in a supportive environment. During the program, teens also learn how to recognize triggers that may lead to negative behavior, build self-esteem, develop healthier relationships with family members and peers, and make positive choices for their future.
