The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) welcomes all Veterans, families, caregivers, and survivor beneficiaries, including diverse gender identities and sexual orientations. “LGBTQ+” refers to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer identities. The “+” sign captures identities beyond LGBTQ, including but not limited to questioning, pansexual, asexual, agender, gender diverse, nonbinary, gender-neutral, and other identities. LGBTQ+ Veterans have faced stigma and discrimination, which can affect health. As a healthcare institution, we need to make sure that LGBTQ+ Veterans know that they are welcome at Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

There is an LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinator  (LGBTQ+ VCC) at every facility to help you get the care you need. VHA policies require that your health care is delivered in an affirming and inclusive environment and that VHA employees respect your identity. Contact the LGBTQ+ VCC at your nearest facility.

COPS/Metro's strength is in its members: the religious institutions, labor locals, and other nonprofit and civic institutions that share a concern for community and are rooted in traditions of democracy. COPS/Metro is broad-based and works in the interest of our community's families, as an interfaith organization that embraces a membership of both religious and secular institutions.

As COPS/Metro members, institutions commit to building "organizing teams" or “action teams” of leaders and potential leaders to work on local issues identified by the team. By joining with other institutions that have similar goals and concerns, COPS/Metro members increase their collective power and work to achieve victories on local and city-wide issues.

Parish leaders have been participating in virtual meetings with other parishes and civic groups to find ways to assist those in need and to alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable in our community.

Boerne Blessings provides a safe haven for children and youth in crisis, encourages healing, and advocates in hope for children throughout south central Texas.

Unfortunately, child neglect and abuse happens right here in Boerne. To ensure children's safety, Child Protective Services removes children both temporarily and permanently throughout south central Texas.

There is currently not an emergency shelter that accepts children of all ages in Kendall county. When children are removed from their homes, sometimes they are transported to Houston or Dallas, and sometimes they sleep on the floor in a CPS office.

Boerne Blessings goal is to fill this great need and provide a safe haven to children in crisis. We serve all foster children in need of temporary shelter while their CPS caseworker attempts reunification with family members or placement within a foster home.

CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, recruits, screens, trains and supervises volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children involved in the court system to help secure a permanent, safe home.

Tri-County CASA, Inc. has been in operation since 2001 and serves children in foster care settings in Uvalde, Real and Medina Counties.

Tri-County CASA relies heavily on the support of its volunteer pool who are highly trained individuals giving their time to make a difference in the life of a child.  A CASA volunteer completes a 30 hour training program before being sworn in by a judge and assigned to a case.

Cases involving CASA volunteers are usually cases where children have been removed from their parents care, placed in a relative’s home or foster placement, and the judge presiding sees a special need for the case to have the additional support of a CASA. CASA’s visit children, attend court hearings and other meetings involving the welfare of the children in the case, and report to a CASA staff supervisor as well as to the judge hearing the case. The CASA plays an important role in determining the child’s wellbeing while in foster care as well as makes recommendations as to whether it is in the best interest of the child to return home.

A protection order is an order used by a court to protect a person, business, company, establishment, or entity, and the general public, in a situation involving alleged domestic violence, assault, harassment, stalking, or sexual assault.

Intimate partner violence is about power and control. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.

A protection order is an official legal document signed by a judge that orders the abuser to stop abusing or threatening you and/or your children. It can also include other types of relief such as child support, custody, visitation and payment of debts.

The abuser may be ordered to stay away from your home, school or place of employment. You have the right to file for a protection order if someone has abused you within the past six months (180 days) OR if they abuse or threaten to abuse any person under 18 years old now or in the future.

In addition, there are several reasons why it might not be safe for you to return home after obtaining an emergency protective order including but not limited to threats made against pets and property damage done at your residence during previous incidents of violence between yourself and the abuser.
