The goal of Deaf Ministry is to provide Deaf and hard-of-hearing persons and their families access to the Catholic Faith in order that they may participate in all aspects of parish life including worship, the sacraments, religious education and ministry to others.

Deaf Ministry also assists parishes in identifying needs and making plans to achieve accessibility goals.

Deaf Ministry also hosts workshops throughout the year such as "Interpreting for Catholic Weddings, Funerals, and Other Special Occasions."

Hospital Ministry brings the care of the Catholic community to all Catholics who are hospitalized. ResCare’s Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF) are a great choice for individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities. For the person residing in an ICF, we strive to promote individual independence and provide 24-hour care that may include; nursing care, intensive medical care, as well as opportunities for group development and social interaction. Additionally, we will assist individuals in managing their daily tasks such as taking medications, dressing, cooking, going on outings, and bathing.

A Day Habilitation program is centered around an individual’s needs and interests and helps them develop and/or improve communication skills.

Community Living Services – Intermediate Care Facility – Group Home

ResCare’s Group Home setting offers individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) a more personal, home-like atmosphere.

Each resident receives their bedroom with no more than three to four individuals in the house. Each home is staffed 24/7 and helps make the home feel more like a family setting. Meals are served in common areas, providing residents with an opportunity for social interaction and camaraderie.

Individuals in the group home share responsibilities with cooking, cleaning, shopping, and other tasks related to home maintenance. The Group Home setting allows an individual to live their life to the best of their abilities while being cared for and assisted as needed.

Though every child learns at a different pace, sometimes they encounter conditions that pose developmental delays. The Center for Health Care Services ECI program provides assessment, therapy, and other assistance you need to help your baby and your family learn to navigate around the challenges.

CHCS ECI is part of a statewide program for families with children, birth to 36 months, who have exhibited symptoms of developmental delays or disabilities. Family support and specialized services help you strengthen your ability to find the resources you need to improve your child’s development through daily activities. CHCS ECI works with parents or caretakers to help you find learning opportunities within your family’s normal routines of bath time, mealtime, or playtime.

ECI includes early intervention case management, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech and language, caregiver education, and support services for infants and toddlers with developmental delays or medical conditions leading to developmental delays, and who reside in Bexar County SAISD, ECISD, HISD, SISD, and SSISD School Districts.

One of the best ways to learn about our organization and promote our mission within the San Antonio community is to serve as an outreach volunteer. This position requires a two hour training where we walk you through each of the disABILITYsa programs, show you how to set-up our information table, and prepare you to answer some basic questions about the organization regarding programs, volunteer opportunities, and ways others can get involved. You'll accompany us to various information fairs, and then once you're ready, you'll take off on your own. Outreach volunteers are a big part of fulfilling our mission to educate, advance, and engage.

The Adult Years Vocational Program (AYVP) is a transition program that addresses the vocational and transition needs of adult students between the ages of 18-21 with developmental disabilities such as intellectual disabilities, autism, and other health impairments.

These students have completed their high school credits but need additional transition services in order to function academically, behaviorally, and/or independently beyond high school.

Students will also be provided transition supports in areas such as transportation, housing, respite and daily living services in collaboration with their family and community agencies.

Program includes:

  • Job development and training
  • Training in work-related skills necessary for job retention
  • Connect with student support services at the community college
  • Training in public transportation
  • Practice in menu planning, grocery shopping, and cooking
  • Practice in housekeeping skills
  • Practice in budgeting and shopping for clothing and personal items.
  • Connect with an adult agency which will continue job support
    after the student turns 21
  • Develop skills to establish and maintain a checking account
  • Practice the organizational skills needed to keep a weekly
    schedule of appointments

Eligibility:

  • Currently receiving special education services
  • All high school requirements and credits fulfilled
  • Between the ages of 18 and 21
  • Recommended by ARD Committee
  • Able to participate in a group setting

Get help preparing for post-secondary education and employment through the following individualized services.

Services are based on eligibility and your individual need and are provided in collaboration with the family, high school, community college, or Educational Service Center.

Receive core services, as needed, to help prepare for post-secondary education and employment opportunities:

  • Vocational counseling, including counseling in job exploration and post-secondary training opportunities
  • Counseling on opportunities for post-secondary education such as college, vocational schools, etc.
  • Work-based learning experiences, including internships and on-the-job training
  • Training in workplace and employer expectations
  • Training in self-advocacy and social skills
