We combat the issues of childhood obesity and physical inactivity by helping youth develop healthy lifestyles through free nutrition education, wholesome snacks, and necessary sustenance each day. Through daily exercise we promote moderate to vigorous physical activity. In addition, SA Youth promotes healthy living by advising against the use of negative behaviors such as smoking, consuming alcohol, and abusing drugs
COMPREHENSIVE NUTRITIONOne in four children in San Antonio suffers from food insecurity and hunger. We serve our youth with a healthy snack upon arriving at our centers after they finish the school day. Children who remain through dinner are also served a nutritious meal. Throughout the summer months, children are served a healthy breakfast along with a nutritious lunch. Our program provides wholesome sustenance and well-planned menu options designed by a Nutrition Coordinator at our site locations. |
PHYSICAL EDUCATIONSA Fit! provides our youth with hands-on, creative, and fun activities that are moderate to vigorous physical activities. Each day our youth engage in at least 60 minutes of structured physical activities at our site locations. Using GeoMotion and SPARK (Sports, Play, & Active Recreation for Kids) our youth are equipped with the tools to make healthy lifestyle choices. We also offer specialized physical fitness programs in:

Adult women students focus on increasing flexibility and muscular strength. Class begins with a full-body warm up, followed by a variety of stretches and strength-building exercises. Intended for those who want to get back in shape or want to add a new form of exercise to their regimen. Many of the exercises are tailored to the individual’s physical needs. Therefore, all levels of physical ability are welcome to this class. Please inform the instructor of any injuries or medical conditions that may hinder physical movement prior to the start of class.
Adult women over 18 years
Tuition: By semester, averages $20/class for one weekly class, plus annual registration fee of $40, with discounts for multiple family members enrolling.
In this slow-paced exercise class, students will be led through various exercises inspired by basic ballet principles and positions. Adult Ballet offers a safe and slow-paced form of exercise for those who would like to increase strength, flexibility and balance. Please inform the instructor of any injuries or medical conditions that may hinder physical movement prior to the start of class.
Adult women age 30 and above.
Tuition: By semester, averages $20/class for one weekly class, plus annual registration fee of $40, with discounts for multiple family members enrolling.
Students learn basic arm and foot positions of ballet and will be led through various ballet combinations performed at the barre, in the center, and across the floor. Includes fun games, strength building, and balance building exercises. Intended for those with little to no ballet training. Please inform the instructor of any injuries or medical conditions that may hinder physical movement prior to the start of class.
Children ages 5-9

You’ll learn about unity, sportsmanship, and how to work together to achieve success. You’ll also learn that success isn’t just about winning; it’s about how you play the game and respond to challenges.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio changes lives through high-quality afterschool and summer programs in a safe, affordable, and fun environment.
BGCSA serves kids ages 6 to 18 years old.

Transportation is available from Hillcrest Elementary, Bonham Elementary, Briscoe Elementary, Harris Middle School, Brackenridge High School, Burbank High School, Advanced Learning Academy, Fox Tech High School, Cast Tech High School, KIPP Esperanza Elementary, KIPP Aspire Middle School, and KIPP U-Prep High School.
Clubhouse membership is $100 for the school year and $100 for the summer.
Teen membership is $25 for the summer.
Our HISD extended day programs are on a sliding scale fee and require proof of income to verify household income levels.
Hardship scholarships are readily available; and all military youth or youth on Medicaid Amerigroup are free.
Registration fees are capped at $300 per family.

Program:
The Triple Play experience challenges members to become healthy and active by learning new ways to eat nutritionally, manage stress, maintain physical fitness and form positive relationships with peers.
- MIND: The Healthy Habits program is designed to incorporate healthy living and active learning in every part of the Club experience, from the gym to the learning center to the arts and crafts room.
- BODY: This component boosts Clubs’ physical activities to a higher level by providing sports and fitness programs, activities and sports competitions for all boys and girls, whether they are athletically inclined or not.
- SOUL: Club youth are able to develop and sustain positive relationships with others, acquire a healthy self-concept and a strong belief in their self-worth and cope well with positive and adverse situations.

Inner City is a nonprofit, community based organization that responds to emergency, educational, and recreational needs of the neighborhood on the near Westside of San Antonio.
100 students in grades 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th participate. Registration usually begins in February.

These outdoor fitness stations feature high-quality equipment that allows you to combine your cardio workout on the trails with a total body workout on the equipment. The majority of the installations were made possible by an Americans Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funded grant entitled Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW).

A Wesley Nurse is a faith-based community nurse. The professional practice of the Wesley Nurse is not limited to the physical dimension of medical needs; rather, it includes a mind, body and spirit holistic approach.
While the Wesley Nurse program is a component of Methodist Healthcare Ministries' ecumenical outreach and located within churches, it does not teach a set of denominational beliefs.
