Teletherapy: also called telepsychology, telehealth or telemedicine—involves speaking with a licensed mental health professional remotely. Right now, most teletherapy is done via video chat. At the CCS we use video chat as well audio chat. Most cell phones will enable you to connect with us with video or audio only.

Individual Counseling: The CCS staff welcomes individuals who want to improve their quality of life. We help you narrow your goal to be achievable and tackle an issue where you feel stuck and need additional ideas to move forward. Our goal is to help you recognized some of your existing strengths that you may be overlooking. Some people hesitate to come to therapy because their community may see seeking help as having stigma. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) finds mental health issues are common in the US particularly now during the pandemic. NIMH identified that a one in five adults may be affected and would benefit from individual therapy.

Couples Counseling: The CCS staff welcomes couples who are dealing with challenges in their relationships. We are happy to work with all types of couples and are LGBTQ+ friends and allies. We provide couples counseling in both English and Spanish.

Family Therapy: The CCS staff welcomes individuals and families from all walks of life who are dealing with personal and family struggles, intimacy issues, and parental concerns. Our goal is to facilitate creative solutions that can result in personal growth and well-being, healthier relationships, good parenting skills, and better communication with those whom you value.

Psychological Testing: We offer strengths-based assessment services for children, adolescents and adults. Assessment services provide an evaluation of intellectual, learning, emotional and/or behavioral functioning to streamline treatment planning. Evaluation reports highlight clients' relative strengths, abilities, and interests as well as identifying areas that may require attention, training, and/or educational support to assist in preparation for school and work success.

One-at-a-Time Counseling: Many people find that a single session of counseling helps to get them started in a new direction. The focus of the single session is on your greatest worry, challenge or difficulty, and what you want to achieve from the meeting. Our aim is for you to leave the session with some ideas or strategies to try out. At CCS, you can schedule a One-at-a-Time session or you can be seen in an unscheduled session at certain times of the week. These sessions can be in person, telephone or virtual. They are available for individuals, couples and families. Some find that their one session is enough for now. Some decide to access a future scheduled or unscheduled One-at-a-Time session. Additional service options can be discussed with your therapist at the time of the session.

Services for Essential Workers.

Family Therapy Services for Northside ISD: The CCS offers free individual and family therapy to students in the Northside Independent School District. Areas of service include anxiety, bullying, coping skills, depression, family conflict, relationships, self-esteem, sexuality and gender, social media issues, etc. As part of the graduate program, therapists are up to date with the latest approaches in therapy. Clients benefit from the CCS's unique team approach.

Fees for Individual, Couples, and Family Counseling sessions: The CCS uses a sliding fee scale to make counseling services affordable to our clients. Fees are based on your ability to pay. We use the Texas Sliding Scale Fee to set your fee.

Fees for Psychological Assessment: Clients will be charged $50.00 per assessment administered (ex: Cognitive, Academic, Psychological).

Fees for the OLLUSA Community: All CCS services are available without cost to OLLU students, faculty and staff and clients with Medicaid.

Healthy Minds, Healthy Heroes (HMHH) is providing no-cost counseling services to veterans with PTSD, depression, and anxiety.

The program will also counsel the veteran's family
members as long as the presenting issue relates back to supporting the veteran.

The program is composed of an intake specialist, licensed professional counselors, and licensed clinical social workers. Our counselors are either veterans themselves, or are a part of a veteran family, or have other experience with military culture. Counselors are trained in specific trauma therapies like Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure Therapy. Counselors are also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Family Therapy informed by the research and work of Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Sue Johnson.

HMHH does not provide medications and is not an emergency service for walk-in clients.

To be eligible for the program, the veteran will need to provide a DD-214 and a photo ID. (HMHH can also help the veteran obtain their DD-214 document.)

A veteran with a dishonorable discharge will not be eligible for this program.

This program is collaborating with community-based organizations—especially women’s organizations—to learn about the extent and impact of family violence.

This campaign will engage males in the learning about and need for stopping the spousal and child abuse violence and involve them in community education, arts, activist, organizing, faith based and neighborhood events and activities to do so.

A father should be a model of positive, non-violent behavior for his children by:

  • Being a true partner in the raising of his children.
  • Valuing his male and female children equally.
  • Sharing in the duties at home.
  • Making the most of family leave entitlements and family-friendly work conditions.
  • Sharing financial decisions and resources.
  • Being non-violent and non-controlling.
  • Promoting gender equality.
  • Being an equal partner in the home.
  • Not accepting male dominance as the norm

Court-mandated students only.

Couples therapy provides a space for the couple to jointly cultivate a better understanding of how they tend to function together around fundamental tasks of relationship: appreciating and supporting the other’s growth and development; working together in a common undertaking; fostering intimate relations both physical and emotional; making decisions involving shared resources (e.g. money); and resolving disputes/conflicts when they arise.

Effective couples therapy cannot rest with understanding. Useful engagements will continue on to foster development of practical skills, including through active experimentation between sessions.

Couples Counseling:

Every couple has highs and lows in their relationship. That loving communication, appreciation, and understanding are more easily described than carried-out in real life. When couples find themselves off-track, it does not mean the relationship is over. It often means that the couple just needs a little help. When trust has been lost, partners may be able to rebuild it. When couples are pulling in different direction, they can re-evaluate their priorities. When intimacy has been lost, that spark can be reignited. Couples therapy is not a magic formula to save a relationship, but it often helps. Skilled therapists can often turn challenges into opportunities for partners to grow closer to each other.

That is why Thriveworks San Antonio offers couples therapy. Many partners who want a better relationship do not always know how to improve their connection. Our therapists have helped many couples learn how to improve their relationship.

Family Therapy:

Whether or not you and your family need to see a therapist depends on your situation and personal opinions-it's a consensus you’ll need to reach together. However, it may be helpful to keep in mind that there are several indications of negative family dynamics that you can watch out for, including:

  • Undiagnosed mental health conditions or disorders
  • Alcohol or drug addiction
  • Physical or verbal abuse
  • Feelings of resentment or hostility
  • Unruly behavioral issues in children or teens
  • Persistent anxiety over financial issues or relationship difficulties
