In the Arc's Adult Life Enrichment Program, we build upon the education that our participants received while in the school system by providing community and site-based programming at two facilities.

Our domain-based curriculum focuses on strengthening life skills within an environment conducive to growth and socialization. Many things set The Arc apart as a premier provider of direct-care services, some of which include: Full-Time Nursing staff, which allows us to care for individuals needing more physical assistance and to provide an educational focus on healthy lifestyle choices, a fleet of accessible vehicles, which help facilitate community-based programming, and a Volunteer Involvement Program, which allows our participants to serve the community through partnerships with Meals on Wheels, The San Antonio Food Bank, local animal shelters, and more!

Behavioral Supports: The Arc provides behavioral support services for our Life Enrichment Program participants on an individual basis and works with individual Arc participants to address and modify behaviors that may be problematic for the participant and their families.

The overall goal of behavior support is to improve the quality of life for the individual. Behavior supports will utilize the application of applied behavior analysis and target socially significant behaviors. Those targets are identified as a result of a thorough assessment (i.e. skill or behavioral) and could address areas such as:

  • Functional communication (i.e. development and utilization of a communication system);
  • Social Skills (i.e. initiating and reciprocating greetings, sharing/turn-taking with others, accepting no, waiting);
  • Daily Living Skills (i.e. wiping tables, identifying the value of currency, washing dishes, preparing a meal);
  • Behavior enhancement procedures (i.e. increasing compliance, increasing participation in activities)
  • Behavior reduction procedures (i.e. decreasing incidents of aggression, classroom disruptions, verbal outbursts).
  • All behavioral interventions are individualized and aim to increase functional living skills.

Program eligibility requirements:

  • Diagnosis of an intellectual and/or developmental disability (IDD), autism spectrum, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, or dual diagnosis with IDD.
  • Are 18 or older.
  • Have state program funding or the ability to pay privately for program fees.

God has given us an open door into the lives of some amazing families here in San Antonio. Some have been here for years, while others have come as refugees from all over the world.

Our heart is to show the love of Jesus for each person through relationship building and meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the community as we encounter them.

Throughout the year, we work with Oak Manor Apartments in various community events and activities. We help with Backyard Bible Clubs, a food pantry, National Night Out, Back to School drives, relational discipleship, and more.

The Soldiers’ Angels Sewing and Crafting Team provides lovingly created handmade pieces of comfort and support to veterans, deployed service members and their families.

Whether a Team Angel is an expert seamstress or a casual hobbyist, there is an opportunity to meet the needs of our troops on the Sewing and Crafting Team. Many Sewing and Crafting Team Angels rely on their personal talents and skill sets to knit, sew, crochet and quilt their gifts of support.

For those less experienced, no-sew blankets provide an opportunity to become more involved. These handmade items are then distributed within the military community to active duty service members, expectant military families and in VA hospitals around the country.

Community support is vital to refugee success:

Legally resettled refugees contribute to the enrichment of San Antonio, becoming dependable employees and reliable neighbors who contribute positively to the diversity of our community.

Following resettlement, refugee families are extremely vulnerable and underserved. They fled their homes due to religious and ethnic persecution.  CRS focuses on refugees’ ongoing unmet needs, recognizing that self-sufficiency and successful community integration is a process rather than a time-limited event.

Letter to Our Volunteers

Dear prospective volunteer:

Since the fall of the government in Kabul, Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, the huge influx of legally admitted Afghan humanitarian parolees into the US is unprecedented.

San Antonio is one of the top destination cities for Afghan resettlement. While CRS is not a resettlement agency our newest neighbors are arriving without basic necessities such as hygiene supplies, bedding, and access to food.

CRS is filling the need to supply essential supplies to new arrivals. Since October 2021 CRS continues to assist over 4000 Afghan adults and children. In 2024 CRS expects to see more Afghans, Syrians, Sudanese, and Somalis. Our most urgent needs at the moment include help with obtaining and delivering essential household items to new clients. We welcome donations of new or gently used household items. See https://sarefugees.org/donate/. Please do not drop off any donations at CRS without contacting our office at 210-949-0062 or sending us a message. We regularly post a list of needed items on our Facebook page.

How to get involved:

  • Food for the Soul - There is a reason we say “food is love!” Good food can touch your heart, offer a sense of comfort and remind you that someone cares about you just because. By participating in Food for the Soul, you will provide a meal for our kids staying at Clarity CGC for inpatient psychiatric treatment and our staff that care for them. And who knows, by the end of the meal you might feel the love and joy too!
  • Bridge the Gap - Many kids are admitted to Clarity CGC with only the clothes on their backs. You can help Bridge the Gap by organizing a donation drive to collect food, clothing, or hygiene products for kids and families who are struggling with more than just mental illness.
  • Be the Link - While everyone must be mindful of who we are around right now, there are still plenty of opportunities to get your friends, family, or organization involved with volunteering at Clarity! Reach out to us to discuss volunteer opportunities and positions around campus.
  • Third-party events - Anyone can help transform the lives of the kids struggling with mental illness in our community by hosting a fundraiser for Clarity Child Guidance Center. You can honor a loved one or celebrate a special occasion, or host a golf tournament or skeet shoot, or plan a 5k or yard sale! Any number of events can make a huge difference for our kids and their treatment.
