The Schaefer Branch Library provides community responsive services, a robust collection of books and materials, and integrated technology.

Professional librarians provide reference and research assistance, and programming for children, teens and adults.

- Free Wi-Fi is available outside of 28 of its 30 locations daily from 7:30 AM to 10:30 PM in an effort to serve those who do not have reliable broadband internet access at home. (The two exceptions are the Pruitt Branch Library and Briscoe Portal at the Briscoe Western Art Museum.)
- Texana/Genealogy services are still available only by phone, email, or through Ask MySAPL.
The collection consist of over 87,000 items including books, magazines, newspapers, videos, DVD's and CD's. Approximately 40% of the collection materials will be for children and young adults. Materials in Spanish, and audio, video, DVD and CD.
