The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Southwest Texas is one of the longest-running charities in South Texas serving those in need throughout ten south-central Texas counties. For nearly 150 years, we have continued this mission in San Antonio, providing direct assistance to meet critical needs in our community.

Our network of 55 Conference sites, spanning almost 1,400 total square miles, allows our reach to extend across the South Texas community. Our programs (both emergency and long-term) provide food, clothing, household items, furniture, financial aid, school supplies, fans, case management, job training, budget counseling, housing search and placement, disaster recovery, and rent and utility assistance.

As the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Southwest Texas Council we also affiliate with St. Vinny’s Bistro® which provides three hot, nutritious meals each day,  365 days a year in the Courtyard at Haven for Hope. Through this work, we serve an average of 1,100 to 1,400 meals per day. In addition, sack lunches are provided for those who work in the community and medicinal meals are provided for those who need to take their medication with food.

What is the Young Women’s Leadership Academy?

The Young Women’s Leadership Academy is San Antonio’s only public all-girls school, and enjoys total focus from its principal and educational team. Its results speak for themselves.

  • 100% of students graduate from high school
  • 100% of students are accepted at a wide range of colleges and universities across the United States.

How is YWLA Different?

The unique differentiator is support from the private YWLA Foundation, which focuses on:

  • A high-achieving educational culture
  • A commitment to graduating 100% of each class, and ensuring all students enter college with an educational toolbox to assure successful graduation.

Key success pointers for the YWLA program:

  • Rigorous Academics
  • Focus on Healthy Living

Blue Ribbon Status for YWLA

In 2015, when the Young Women’s Leadership Academy accepted the U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon award for academic achievement, it was the only school in San Antonio to receive the coveted recognition.

The fact that the school had opened its doors only seven years earlier added to the surprise of the announcement.

Beyond the Light Outreach Project will serve the underserved Denver Heights Community and the surrounding San Antonio area through intervention programs for wellness, nutrition, life enhancement, and life-challenging addictions.

BTLOP exists to help the less fortunate and provide basic services of life through food and clothing with dignity and respect.

  • Food Pantry
  • Clothes Closet
  • Identification Recovery
  • VIP Meal

St James AME Church (Faith / Christian )

Organized in 1867, Saint James was the second AME church to be located in the state of Texas.

Saint James Chapel was organized in 1867. Bishop Jabez P. Campbell assigned Rev. E. Hammitt as their pastor. This ministry started at the Old Soap Factory in 1868, and the present site was purchased in 1921; the lower auditorium was completed in 1928, the main sanctuary was completed in 1935.

We are proud of our history, and in keeping with the social justice-oriented focus of the AMEC, we are equally proud of our various ministries that represent our present.

Our mission is to intentionally offer others the opportunity to follow Jesus Christ within the Life, Fellowship, and Ministries of St. James.

Through a passion for health and cutting-edge diagnostic testing, Institute for Functional Health has designed the most effective wellness program.

At its core, Functional Medicine is about understanding that every body is different. You are an individual and your health is the combination of your genetics and all the inputs your body has experienced over your life, from the food that you eat to the medicines you have taken to the natural environment where you live.

The concepts behind functional medicine have been around for over a century and were often clouded in the nuance of holistic medicine. But an increase in research dollars and the advent of cutting-edge technology to dissect and map human DNA have created a renaissance in health care.

No longer are you relegated to the same old cycle of medication after medication. We now have the technology and the data to transform your body with customized health care.

That is exactly what we are doing here at the Institute for Functional Health.

The people of Esperanza dream of a world where everyone has civil rights and economic justice, where the environment is cared for, where cultures are honored and communities are safe.

The Esperanza advocates for those wounded by domination and inequality — women, people of color, the lesbian, gay, trans and queer community, the working class and poor. We believe in creating bridges between people by exchanging ideas and educating and empowering each other. We believe it is vital to share our visions of hope… we are esperanza.
