COVID-19 Notice

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has ordered a temporary halt on evictions for some renters as COVID-19 continues to impact the nation.

Click here for more information and updates.

While SAHA is not charging fees or penalties to Public Housing residents, other landlords, including those of Section 8 voucher holders, can still charge and collect rent, fees, and penalties under the terms in the lease, but are not allowed to file for eviction based on non-payment rent. Voucher holders with past-due rent are encouraged to reach out to their landlords now to discuss options for repayment agreements.

The CDC Order does not waive an individual of their obligation to pay rent or comply with any other obligation. Renters are still required to pay all past-due rent and are encouraged to reach out to SAHA if their income has been impacted by COVID-19. SAHA may need to recalculate rent payments and also offers repayment plans to Public Housing residents and accepts partial payments for those unable to pay rent in full each month.

Under the CDC Eviction Order, tenants may still be evicted for:

  • Engaging in criminal activity on the premises;
  • Threatening the health or safety of other residents;
  • Damaging or posing an immediate and significant risk of damage to property;
  • Violating any applicable building code, health ordinance, or similar regulation relating to health and safety; or
  • Violating any other contractual obligation (other than late fees, penalties, or interest).

In addition, SAHA clients may also qualify for emergency rental or utility assistance from the City of San Antonio. To learn more and submit an application online, please visit the City’s COVID-19 Emergency Housing Assistance website here.

Until further notice, all testing sites managed by the City of San Antonio are only testing people who have symptoms. Find locations, times, and other details of City-run testing sites here.

If you do not have symptoms and want a test, you can still get tested at a private clinic. A full list of the private testing sites is available here.

The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) is unable to provide individual letters verifying that an individual was tested for COVID-19 and is awaiting results.

Appointments for Texas Military Department locations can be made at www.txcovidtest.org or by calling 512-883-2400.

Residents can also call 311 or the Metro Health hotline at 210-207-5779 to request more information about testing.

If you are tested at the Freeman Coliseum, Metro Health will NOT provide your results. The National Testing Center will call you up to three times to inform you of your results.

If you are tested at a private clinic or by your doctor, they will provide you with results.

Results are not available from the City's COVID Hotline or Testing Hotline.

COVID-19 testing is now available to the general public.

All individuals must register online.

The cost for testing should be covered by most insurance plans or through government-sponsored programs.

If cost and transportation are not a barrier, we encourage you to find a testing provider near you listed in additional resources.

If a person does not have insurance, they can receive a test for free through the City at Freeman Coliseum.
