Drug Free Comfort is a community coalition made up of parents, educators, community leaders, law enforcement, and those interested in making a positive impact in the lives of our community’s young people.

This non-profit organization works to eliminate dangerous and illegal drugs from Comfort schools and our community as a whole by raising awareness and knowledge of dangerous and illegal drugs by implementing effective drug prevention programs.

Drug Free Comfort works with the Kendall County Sheriff’s offices, the Comfort Independent School District, Homeland Security, the US Drug Enforcement Agency, other drug prevention experts, and Comfort community organizations and churches to develop effective drug prevention programs.

We schedule presentations for students in grades 5 through 12 and their parents. We offer Comfort community programs by providing meaningful and educational information about emerging drug trends.

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Eating Recovery Center empowers patients to take ownership of their recovery and become active participants in their lives. Our Intensive Outpatient program is a flexible eating disorder treatment program that allows patients to work, go to school, or care for children during the day and sleep at home at night.

In IOP, patients are in treatment up to three days per week for up to 9 hours per week. Programming includes nutritional counseling, individual therapy, family therapy, supported meals, and more.

Experienced professionals employ several therapeutic interventions in IOP, including:

  • Family-Centered Treatment
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive-behavioral treatment (CBT)

The program also incorporates core recovery principles, values, mindfulness, and connectedness.

The IOP can serve as a step-down level of care, helping to foster a positive transition into activities of daily living for adults upon discharging from our Residential or Partial Hospitalization programs. IOP can also be leveraged as a direct-admit level of care for adult patients requiring a higher level of care from an outpatient setting - allowing them to remain engaged with their lives.

What to Expect in Our Intensive Outpatient Program:

Typically, patients who are participating in our intensive outpatient program will come to our center for sessions several times a week for two to four hours at a time. They might live at home while in treatment, or they might live in a sober living residence. Sober living is ideal for patients whose living environments are not stable or supportive of recovery. In sober living, residents pledge to maintain sobriety and work on their recovery while living in a structured environment.

Patients receive care and therapies that are best suited to their individual needs as part of a personal treatment plan based on the 12-step philosophy. This approach involves an accurate diagnosis, advanced modalities of treatment, and a supportive, therapeutic environment.

Relapse prevention is the biggest focus of intensive outpatient program treatment, just as it is for inpatient residential programs. We help our patients avoid relapse by creating personalized plans to address the triggers that could lead to drug and alcohol use.

Whether the issue stems from a lack of understanding between those involved, sibling conflict, or developmental disagreements with a child, a difficult situation can affect the entire family. Some situations that may benefit from family counseling include:

  • If a family is going through a loss
  • If a family member is suffering from substance abuse
  • Issues between parents (parenting issues or going through a divorce)
  • If a teenager is experiencing behavior issues such as anger outbursts

Hero Story Housing provides comfortable and affordable shared housing for veterans.

A recovery home, like those provided by Hero Housing, is a residential place that offers a safe, stable, and supportive environment for individuals in recovery from substance abuse.

The emphasis is on creating a community that promotes sustained sobriety and personal growth, typically through a combination of peer support and professional services.

Many communities have built strong and collaborative reentry support systems to assist Veterans to leave prison or jail, reenter society, and follow their reentry plan to become independent and functioning members of the community.

The goal is that the program will assist in veterans desisting from any commission of new crimes.

Affordable Housing
Low-cost living spaces that provide stability and security to individuals in recovery. This is an affordable alternative living space where common areas are shared spaces. Most bedrooms have 2 people per room.

Community Support
Supportive environment, encouraging experiences, and mutual support. We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive community that fosters camaraderie, mutual respect, and a sense of belonging, enabling our veteran residents to thrive and lead fulfilling lives.

The program is designed to promote successful community integration of Veterans into the general public. Engaging them in such a pleasant, homely type living-space is likely to lead them down more postive paths after release. While re-adjusting to community life, they will be living amongst others who share the commonality of also being previously  incarcerated or in a recovery home.

Counseling Services
We facilitate access to both individual and group counseling sessions to promote emotional well-being. We believe that emotional well-being is a key factor in successful recovery. These services help residents deal with the emotional challenges of recovery and foster a sense of shared experience and mutual support within the community.

Skill Development
Hero Housing offers various resources and opportunities aimed at personal growth and self-sufficiency. This includes resources, opportunities for job training, education to learn independence, and workshops focused on essential life skills. Our goal is to empower our residents to build a secure future and successfully reintegrate into society.

Reintegration Help
Our team supports residents as they reintegrate into everyday life. Reintegration is a crucial part of the recovery journey, and at Hero Housing, we offer guidance and support throughout this process. We help residents develop important life skills, provide job training and educational resources, and offer counseling to help them deal with potential challenges. We work closely with each resident, acknowledging their unique needs, and supporting them as they transition back into the wider community.

Health & Wellness
We promote a balanced lifestyle through fitness and nutrition programs.

The passion of the Hero Story Housing team is reflected in every aspect of our work. Composed of dedicated professionals and volunteers who have personal experience with recovery, our team understands the unique challenges faced by our residents. This intimate knowledge fuels our commitment to creating a profound and positive impact.

Family Education and Counseling
Hero Journey Housing offers family education programs that provide loved ones with valuable insights into addiction, the recovery process, and strategies for supporting their family member in recovery.

Our counseling sessions provide a space for open dialogue, where families can address past conflicts, work through trust issues, and learn effective communication skills. These programs and sessions empower families with the tools they need to actively participate in their loved one’s recovery journey.

At Hero Journey Housing, we recognize that addiction not only affects the individual struggling with substance abuse but also impacts their entire family. We create a safe space where residents and their families can openly discuss the challenges they have faced, express their emotions, and gain a deeper understanding of the impact addiction has had on their relationships. By acknowledging the pain and trauma caused by addiction, we lay the foundation for healing and rebuilding.

Every step forward is an accomplishment. We understand the importance of recognizing and honoring these achievements.

Who can benefit from Hero Housing's services?

Hero Housing services are intended for men and women in recovery from substance abuse(or incarceration) who are in need of secure, affordable housing, and a supportive community.

Our residents range from those fresh out of rehabilitation programs to those who have been sober for some time but seek a supportive environment to maintain their recovery.

Our mission is to provide comfortable and affordable housing solutions in middle-class neighborhoods for veterans through the shared housing program. We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive community that fosters camaraderie, mutual respect, and a sense of belonging, enabling our veteran residents to thrive and lead fulfilling lives.

Our mission is to empower previous veterans, active military and first responders to successfully transition into safe residences in middle class neighborhoods upon release. We believe every individual can be their own hero given the chance to live a fulfilling life, and we are committed to helping them achieve this through safe, sober, supportive environments.

We aim to build a community of rehabilitated heroes who are empowered to take charge of their lives and contribute positively to society.

Vision Statement: Our vision is to be the leading organization dedicated to ensuring that every veteran has access to a safe and welcoming home in a middle-class neighborhood. We aspire to be the catalyst for positive change, forging partnerships with local communities, government agencies, and charitable organizations to expand our impact and reach more veterans in need.

Our vision is to provide independent living for veterans, active military and first responders looking for recovery programs to becoming self empowered heroes of their new and improved story.

We want to provide family/team oriented homes with space, tools, and opportunities to grow and become their best selves.

At Hero Story Housing, we firmly believe in the transformative power of compassion, community, and continuous support. This resource section provides insights into our motivation, our mission, and the evidence-based practices we employ.

Through our shared housing model, we envision a future where no veteran is left without a place to call home, and where the burden of housing costs is alleviated, allowing them to focus on personal growth, employment opportunities, and maintaining strong connections with their fellow servicemen and women. Together, we aim to create a nation that honors and supports its veterans, recognizing the sacrifices they have made for our country.

The world that today’s adolescent lives in, is far more stressful but offers more freedom than any time in the history of our world. As a result we are seeing an entire generation being destroyed due to a lack of addressing the problem of addiction in the hopes that our children will “grow out of this phase” in their lives. We are working with teens in San Antonio and the surrounding area and the problem is staggering!

The program at Alamo City Treatment Services focuses on serving 14 through 17 year olds. We provide individual and family counseling. Our fees are designed to provide accessible treatment for every income. Family participation is strongly encouraged. We have found that the more a family is involved, the more successful the outcome.

If you or family member have a problem with an addiction, please call us at 210-541-8400. Some can stop on their own, but the fix is only temporary. Addiction is a physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual problem that rarely goes away. There is a solution and we want to help. Don’t struggle alone anymore. Let us help you find the answer with a proven solution that works.

Adolescent Recovery Counseling is private pay only.
