The Society of St Vincent de Paul offers tangible assistance to those in need on a person-to-person basis. It is this personalized involvement that makes the work of the Society unique. This aid may take the form of intervention, consultation, or often through direct dollar or in-kind service. An essential precept of the Society's work is to provide help while conscientiously maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those who are served. The Society recognizes that it must assume, also, a role of advocacy for those who are defenseless or voiceless.

The mission of the Comal Thrift Shoppe is to provide affordable high-quality clothing, jewelry, housewares, furniture, and more to Comal and surrounding counties so that we may better serve survivors of domestic and sexual violence as well as women and children experiencing houselessness.
Thanks to a surplus of donations from our wonderful community, the Crisis Center of Comal County is thrilled to announce the launch of the Comal Thrift Shoppe, opened September 16th, 2021. Once they arrive, our clients go through and choose everything they may need from our collection of item donations. Then, our staff and volunteers sort through each piece to curate a high-end collection to be housed at the Comal Thrift Shoppe. People are then free to shop the pieces at their leisure and can take pride in knowing that the proceeds from their purchases directly fund our programs and services.
When you donate and shop at the Hill Country Animal League Thrift Store, you are saving the lives of unwanted or homeless animals in our community and helping low-income pet owners.
The proceeds from the thrift store directly subsidize the costs of providing low-cost spay & neuter surgeries and pet wellness services at the Hill Country Animal League Clinic.

This program provides brand, new bunk beds, mattresses, comforters, sheets, and pillows for children without beds. Volunteers help to deliver and assemble the bunk beds on site. A proper bed is a basic need for a child’s emotional, mental, and physical health. Every child should have a safe and comfortable bed to sleep in at night!
Through our relationships with local agencies and churches, the BCC becomes aware of essential needs and organizes community donations on behalf of local families. We encourage you to stop by and see our “new look” - a newly renovated and expanded retail sales floor and a drive-thru donation drop-off area.

There is always a large selection of clothing in all sizes for men, women, and children. Regular inventory items include shoes, hats, purses, and belts. Since county residents supply the Thrift Store’s inventory, it is constantly changing. In winter months the staff puts out coats, jackets, sweaters, and blankets. In the summer there are always plenty of shorts and tank tops.
Each spring and fall, as part of the inventory shift with the seasons, Helping Hand conducts a bag sale where the staff supplies bags that customers can stuff full for five dollars a bag.
In addition to clothes, the Thrift Store has all kinds of kitchenware for sale, including kitchen tools, dishes, serving bowls and platters, cooking utensils, flatware, table cloths, and dishcloths.
The store often has other household goods for sale, including television sets, computers and computer components, printers, electronic gadgets, and furniture of all kinds.
Entertainment items such as DVDs, CDs, books, and games are sold at amazingly low prices. Knick-knacks, jewelry both new and used, and many gift items can also be found in the Thrift Store.
The Thrift Store is Helping Hand’s most visible program and serves the most people. It operates solely on community contributions of items, which are prized and purchased by people representing all economic strata. The Thrift Store helps support Helping Hand’s other programs.
Helping Hand markets the Thrift Store like the business it is, but with a tagline that describes its real purpose: Come in and browse and buy your bargain. You’ll be helping a neighbor in crisis when you do.
We receive donations Monday - Thursday, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM or until we're full. No donations on Friday, please.
Thank you for your support!
Our Thrift Shop profits provide college scholarships to local youth.
All profits go to scholarships for Comfort students. In 2014, we gave nearly $50,000 in scholarships.
Your donations help our kids start college or trade school, and help our adults who go back to school. Our new location gives us the space to show your donations well.
