Advanced Care Partners entered the adult care market when our patients started to age out of the pediatric programs we serve. Every family that transitions from caring for a medically complex “child” to caring for an “adult” understands how challenging this time can be. As our children age, they often require more specialized and intensive care. We build strong bonds with our families that last a lifetime, just like the care we provide. From birth to adulthood, we are your partner for in-home adult care every step of the way.

Why choose ABA with TLC Kids?

At TLC we focus on engagement and increasing independence rather than focusing on compliance of behaviors like most ABA programs.  It's been clinically proven that  for new neuro synapsis to be created, activities need to be fun and enjoyable.

We use a child led, play based model in our play spaces and believe happy learners make progress. We collaborate with occupational therapists and speech therapist to maximize sensory, feeding and communication progress.

What is ABA therapy?

ABA therapy is based on the science of how human behavior works.  In ABA the term “behavior” refers to all observable behavior, not just challenging behavior.  ABA therapy uses the science of how environment impacts behavior to teach behavioral skills related to social interaction, communication, school readiness, and self-care.

ABA therapy is also effective in decreasing behavior that can impede an individual’s quality of life – such as, physical aggression, self-injury, and elopement – by seeking to understand why the behavior is occurring and teaching replacement behaviors.  ABA focuses on teaching what to do instead of what not to do.

ABA teaching techniques:

  • Discrete Trial Learning (Training) is based on the understanding that practice helps a child master a skill.  This is a structured teaching technique that involves intensive learning of specific behaviors.  Skills are taught in repetition during several trials.  This repetitive teaching can benefit children who may need multiple opportunities to practice a skill to master it.
  • Incidental Teaching (or Natural Environment Training) is based on the understanding that it is important to give real-life meaning to the skills a child is learning.  It includes a focus on teaching skills in settings where your child will naturally use them.  Using a child’s natural everyday environment in therapy can help increase the transfer of skills to everyday situations and helps generalization.  In Incidental Teaching, the therapist utilizes naturally occurring opportunities in order to help the child learn skills.  The activity or situation is chosen by the child, and the caregiver or teacher follows the child’s lead or interest.  These teaching strategies were developed to facilitate generalization and maximize reinforcement.  Once naturally occurring situations in which a child expresses interest are identified, the therapist then uses prompts to encourage responses from the child.
  • Verbal Behavior is similar to discrete trial training in that it is a structured, intensive, one-to-one therapy.  It differs from discrete trial training in that it is designed to motivate a child to learn language by developing a connection between a word and its meaning.  For some children, teaching a word or label needs to include a deliberate focus on teaching them how to use their words functionally For example: “What is this?” “A cup.” “What do you use a cup for?” “Drinking.” “What do you drink out of?” “A cup.”
  • Pivotal Response Training is a naturalistic, loosely structured, intervention that relies on naturally occurring teaching opportunities.  The focus of PRT is to increase motivation by adding components such as turn-taking, reinforcing attempts, child-choice, and interspersing maintenance (pre-learned) tasks.  It takes the focus off of areas of deficits and redirects attention to certain pivotal areas that are viewed as key for a wide range of functioning in children.  Four pivotal areas have been identified: a) motivation, b) child self-initiations, c) self management, and d) responsiveness to multiple cues. It is believed that when these areas are promoted, they produce improvements in many of the non-targeted behaviors.

We accept all major commercial insurances for OT, PT, and Speech.

For ABA therapy we are only accepting private pay and Tricare at the moment.

Understanding Foster Care

When children can’t safely live at home, the court can give temporary legal possession to Child Protective Services (CPS). CPS assigns a case worker to the children and then the immediate goal is to find a safe home for the children to live while the biological parents work to get their rights back.

These temporary places could be:

  • Foster family homes
  • Residential group care facilities
  • Facilities overseen by another state agency

Foster care is meant to be temporary until the parents demonstrate they can safely care for their children. However, it can become permanent if the court determines parental rights should be terminated and the children become legally free for adoption.

Foster parents are typically the natural choice for the permanency provided through adoption. But it's an uncertain road that you must be prepared to travel.

1HOPE is Ready to Help

We see the need and we will partner with you to answer the call. Through 1HOPE’s training and verification of families, we can place children in your safe, loving home. Knowing that God “sets the lonely into families” (Psalm 68:6), 1HOPE feels called to provide foster care services to kids in crisis by:

  • Recruiting, training, and verifying foster families
  • Facilitating excellent matches of children and families
  • Providing continuing education and support for foster families
  • Helping develop care communities to support each 1HOPE foster family
  • Assisting area churches in developing Foster/Adopt Ministries

Missional Opportunity

Foster families are, in effect, local missionaries. By accepting a child into their home, they also open their door to caseworkers, CASA volunteers, birth families, therapy team members, school teachers, medical professionals, and others.

They have the opportunity to share the tangible love of Christ in hurting places. By ministering as foster/adopt families, you are contributing to the sharing of the gospel of Jesus Christ -- the one HOPE of the world!

“My heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved”

Music Therapy is a clinical and therapeutic practice that uses music to achieve specific goals for individuals, such as treating trauma, PTSD, depression, and anxiety.

What is Music Therapy?

There is something about music that has power over us. It can entice us, make us feel warm or cold. It can raise us to happiness and bring us down to sadness. It can make us feel weak, and it can also make us feel strong. Thanks to this ‘power,’ many have sought to use it for its therapeutic benefits. In fact, there is a lot of well-documented research on the subject.

The power that music has over us can help our young clients understand that it's okay to feel what they are feeling. In fact, music has always provided us with an outlet for our emotions, be they positive or negative. Paired with the ideas of Music Therapy, music can be used to create a safe space for teens and adults alike, a space where they can really heal.

Results of Music Therapy for Depression

Research and documented results have shown that Music Therapy heals the brain's neural pathways previously damaged by emotional and physical trauma, and can strengthen a teen's resilience against future events or related stressors.

In regards to anxiety, trauma, or PTSD in teens and adults, Music Therapy has been shown to decrease related symptoms by a great degree. Our young clients have mentioned they no longer have nightmares, aren't always irritable or anxious.

There was one particular study that looked at the brain waves of clients during a Music Therapy session. From the recorded brain patterns they have gathered, the researchers could easily tell when emotions changed from negative to positive. Other studies showed how music can help heal a client's body, such as lowering their heart rates and blood pressure.

We offer an authentic level of care that is ideal for adolescents that need regular therapeutic support. Day treatment is excellent for those that do not want to skip school or miss out on having fun with friends and family.

Day Treatment for Teens is an evidence-based program designed solely for kids struggling with social challenges due to their mental health issues. It can be done after school or during vacation days, both of which allow for longer and more consistent hours for guided therapy.

Our program will allow your teens to learn and grow in an environment that is inclusive and non-judgemental. Through our empirically proven therapies, we will equip your adolescents with the right tools to handle their past traumas as well as navigate school and relationship challenges.

They will learn:

  • How to form strong social bonds with their family, friends, and peers.
  • Strategies to better understand themselves and their emotions.
  • Methods that will help them stay productive and not just busy.
  • Ways to manage their emotions and behavior to reduce how badly certain mental health-related symptoms will affect them.
  • How to communicate well with others, especially with those who want to help them.

If you feel your teenager is not making any progress therapy-wise, you should consider having their teens join our program. Day Treatment for Teens can be recommended for many reasons, including:

  • Your teen feels life is a constant struggle, especially when they are in a social situation in school.
  • Previous therapy sessions do not seem to be helping or are no longer effective for, your teenager.
  • A mental health diagnosis was made and the therapist believes group-based day treatment will be better than individual therapy.
