This center provides programs to help seniors lead active, independent, and engaged lives. This is done through comprehensive nutrition, wellness, and education services.

Services include:

  • A daily lunchtime meal
  • Transportation services to eligible seniors living within a 5-mile radius of the center 

Programs and activities include:

  • Art and drawing classes
  • Fitness classes
  • Health screenings
  • Quilting and sewing classes
  • Technology classes

District 2 is known for its popular “Line Dancing and Chair Volley Ball Classes”, which has been featured on several news stations. Our center's motto is “There’s always something to do at District 2.”

Our staff will provide you with a tour of the center and get you started with our easy to use registration process.

To become eligible to attend this center and participate in services, individuals must reside in Bexar County and meet one of the following criteria:

  • 60 years and older
  • Under 60 years married to a 60+ participant who attends the center and accompanies the participant to the center
  • Under 60 years, disabled, and resides with a 60+ participant and accompanies the participant to the center (only applicable to the HEAL Meal Program)

Community Health Workers, or Promotores de Salud, increase wellness by reaching out to, connecting with, and engaging underserved families and communities to help improve health outcomes for themselves, their families, and the communities in which they live.

Methodist Healthcare Ministries' Community Health Workers are certified by the Texas Department of State Health (DSHS).

Services include:

  • Establishing positive, trusting relationships with community residents in or from underserved communities.
  • Helping patients/clients, families, and underserved communities overcome barriers in language and culture to better connect to quality health care services and resources.
  • Connecting underserved populations to health care services and resources.
  • Providing informal counseling, support, and follow-up home visits for patients/clients.

As a Parents as Teachers® affiliate, Methodist Healthcare Ministries provides bimonthly personal home visits to families and monthly group connection events focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being.

The program supports parents throughout pregnancy until their children enter school full-time providing health, hearing, vision, and developmental screenings for eligible children using approved screening tools and methods.

The program also connects families to resources and helps them overcome any barriers to accessing those resources.

English and Spanish visitations are available.

A complimentary meal is provided during monthly group connection events.
