St. Gerard Catholic Church (Faith / Christian )

Saint Gerard Catholic Church was established in 1911 by the persistence of the Redemptorist to establish a foundation in the State of Texas.

Since 1911, Saint Gerard Catholic Church has seen many dedicated people who have celebrated and worshiped together and continue to be united by the bonds of love formed through our shared experiences.  The triumphs and challenges have formed us into a welcoming community that understands itself as "Your Family in Christ".

Faith formation provides religious instruction and spiritual formation for children in grades 1-12, First Holy Communion, youth Confirmation, adults Confirmation, and Rite of Christian Initiation of adults. The whole family has the opportunity to learn the teachings of the Catholic Church, grow in love for God, praise God as members of our parish community, and cultivate faith-based friendships.

The primary goal of our program is to help children and adults develop a relationship with God that supports, sustains, challenges, and nurtures them throughout their lives.

Our program consists of Sunday classes, seasonal celebrations, and special activities such as a nativity play, saints projects, and Stations of the Cross.

St. Gerard’s Parish is a Catholic faith community that reaches out, welcomes & unifies all people.

What is a Sacrament? Sacraments are outward signs of God’s love instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine grace is dispensed to God’s own people the work of the Holy Spirit. There are seven Sacraments and they are grouped according to their purpose:

  • Sacrament of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist
  • Sacrament of Healing: Anointing of the Sick and Reconciliation
  • Sacrament of Service: Holy Orders and Matrimony

Walking in faith is a lifelong process and children and adults ongoing formation as they grow so that their faith can grow according to their questions and illusions. Students do not “finish” their religious education once they have made First Communion, any more than they “finish” their academic education once they learn to read. Our program prepares you for a lifelong journey of faith.

Christian Initiation of Adults is an open-ended process to warmly welcome new members and provide spiritual formation according to each person’s needs. The process includes discussion, reflection, prayer, and liturgies and rites celebrated within our faith community. Participants reflect on Scripture, uncover their faith stories, and learn to recognize themselves and God’s actions in their lives while exploring the teachings of the Church and its application to their own lives. Contact Director of Faith Formation at (210) 533-0170 or [email protected]

St. Gerard is a singing community! Hymns, psalms, Eucharistic Acclamations, and ritual music deepen and enrich our worship at Mass. To lead the assembly in sung prayer, our cantors, accompanists, and choir prepare well! Our liturgical music is accompanied by piano and guitar, and our historic Bennett pipe organ blends traditional and contemporary hymnody deeply rooted in the theology of the Church.
