Community Counselors help people who are uninsured, whose existing coverage does not provide mental health services benefits, are low-income and lack the money to pay for counseling services, or who would not receive treatment any other way. Counseling services are provided by trained, licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed marriage and family counselors. Sessions are private and conducted in a safe and familiar environment such as churches and community centers.

The first meeting with a counselor is free. A modest fee based on a sliding fee scale is collected for each follow-up session; however, no one is denied service because they cannot pay.

A Wesley Nurse is a faith-based community nurse. The professional practice of the Wesley Nurse is not limited to the physical dimension of medical needs; rather, it includes a mind, body and spirit holistic approach.

Programs and services include:

  • Health education
  • Individualized diabetes education
  • Diabetic supplies
  • Referral assistance
  • Facilitation of resources
  • Exercise classes

While the Wesley Nurse program is a component of Methodist Healthcare Ministries' ecumenical outreach and located within churches, it does not teach a set of denominational beliefs.

The GAP (God Always Provides) Pack Ministry is a food outreach mission that targets nutrition insecurity within our local student population. Though many of the students served by this ministry are enrolled in their school’s meal-assistance program, this only provides for weekday accommodations. Unfortunately, many of these same children do not have sufficient food in the home to cover the time away from school, leaving a "gap" in their ability to healthily sustain.

Our “GAP Packs” fill that void by providing selected items selected to ensure their weekend will be supplemented with kid-friendly, nutrient- and vitamin-rich foods. The backpacks are filled toward the end of the week, and delivered to local schools. The teachers give the packs to the students at the end of the last day of the school week to take home. Upon returning to school, the students bring back their packs for refilling, and the cycle continues.

Only families who have been identified by the Community in Schools counselors based on their individual needs are delivered food packs. This gives us the opportunity to serve the students with the deepest needs on each campus in the local community. These CIS counselors also serve as a communication liaison between families and churches.

*Every week on Mondays

Stephen Ministry is the one-to-one lay caring ministry that takes place in participating congregations. Stephen Ministry congregations equip and empower lay caregivers-called Stephen Ministers-to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting.

Male and female Stephen Ministers are paired with male and female Care Receivers respectively. Confidentiality is key to the ministry. Stephen Ministers receive support through supervision, continuing education, and coaching on a monthly basis.
