Volunteer CJCGC Jail Outreach Coaches meet in weekly, two-hour sessions with women and men (seperate sessions) incarcerated in the Gillespie County Jail.

Our outreach empowers voluntary participants to better understand themselves and others in preparation for life after their sentences are completed. Topics covered include understanding temperament and personalities with the use of assessments. Anger management and communication curriculum are also used to practice and prepare for success after jail or if sentenced to prison.

Vocational discovery and planning is utilized to develop and inform career paths needed to achieve individual goals.

Participants also enjoy time to build community together through worship and discussion.

Finally, the value of each participant and his or her own experiences are nurtured through each writing an autobiography.

CJCGC trains women and men through a 10-week class utilizing the Jobs for Life(TM) curriculum. Each intern (client) is equipped to understand the dignity of work, complete a vocational plan, and build a network to pursue God’s plan for their life.

The Bible is used as a textbook to help interns understand their journey, God-given value, and purpose. To increase employability, interns are trained to use standard computer programs like Microsoft Office or career-specific programs like QuickBooks. With the opportunity to complete industry-recognized certifications, interns increase their marketability to employers.

You Empower Our Neighbors To Go From Poverty To Purpose!

Poverty is caused by relationships that do not work, that are not just, that are not for life, that are not harmonious or enjoyable.

Economic data shows:

  • Unemployment rate of 439 individuals
  • 17% of households earn <$24,999
  • More than 50% of FISD students live in low income households

Many of our neighbors:

  • Lack sufficient education/training
  • Are overqualified in current job
  • Work more than one job or 40+ hours to make ends meet
  • Not confident to pursue goals or lack work ethics.

You empower job search assistance and coaching through the Job Resource Center to help our neighbors find a new or better job.

You empower awareness of education/training resource to Upskill Fredericksburg and real career pathways available in Gillespie County.
