Individuals who experience a brain injury, struggle with memory and attention, or present with difficulties with academic or problem-solving skills are some examples of individuals who may undergo a neuropsychological evaluation. An evaluation helps assess the structural and functional integrity of the brain.

An evaluation provided by a neuropsychologist takes about 5 hours to complete (sometimes more) and evaluates intelligence, executive functions, attention, memory, language, perception, sensorimotor functions, motivation, and emotional functioning. Once testing is completed and all tests are scored, a neuropsychological report is provided to the client and includes all test scores with interpretations.

A primary component of the report is the recommendations sections which will assist the patient and attending medical physician (neurologist, psychiatrist, PCP, etc..) in treatment planning.

That is, testing is designed to provide information on personality, cognitive ability, and emotional functioning. Through the use of various psychological tests, the psychologist can determine the proper diagnosis to inform treatment planning. • Pre-Surgical Evaluations for Bariatric Surgery and Spinal Cord Stimulator: Patients scheduled for surgical procedures such as bariatric surgery or the implantation of a spinal cord stimulator are many times required to undergo a pre-surgical psychological evaluation. The evaluation will help patients identify potential obstacles, the capacity to make decisions, treatment adherence, and coping strategies. The evaluation will also help the medical doctors ensure that the patient is well-informed and emotionally prepared for the surgery and the changes that will occur post-surgery.
