Our Lady of Guadalupe Church has a long and rich history:. Early records show that the Catholic ministry in Helotes began in 1896. In 1908, a wooden chapel was constructed on the grounds of what is now the Helotes Catholic Cemetery on Bandera Road. In 1943, a church was built on the site of the present Eucharistic Chapel. On October 14, 1990, the present day church was dedicated.

Did you know OLG has a homeschooling co-op? The group usually meets every Monday throughout the school year to help teach a class; whether it’s science, history, writing, memory work, preschool or nursery and help build and support one another in our journey.

The moms will meet once a month for coffee, prayer and support.

If interested please text Carrie @ (210) 268-4969 for more information.

The Vision of the Military Family Ministry is of a church parish where all military families of both Veterans and Active Duty Service members experience the love of God through focused, intentional efforts to support their culture and their needs.

The Mission of the Military Family Ministry is to ensure that all families with a deployed family member receive the support they need before, during, and after deployment. And, that Veterans of the parish and their families are supported through relevant cultural activities to help sustain the spirit of connectedness, aka. “esprit de corps,” that warriors experience during their service.

Goals of the Military Family Ministry:

  • Establish and maintain a ministry leadership team
  • Plan, develop, and implement activities such as Burger Burns, Dining Outs, and other social events
  • Enlist volunteers to support families during deployment cycles
  • Incorporate military service-oriented activities for worship (e.g., prayers for deployed service members, sermons, acknowledgement of successes while serving).

If you are interested in joining or learning more about the Military Family Ministry, please contact Yvonne Rheinschmidt, Ph.D., LPC at [email protected].

We are an outreach ministry whose mission is to bring Jesus in the Eucharist to you in your home.  In an effort to keep our faith community connected, we minister to our parishioners who cannot attend Mass or receive the Eucharist due to illness or disability.

Our ministers visit once a week on the weekdays at a time that fits your schedule. We bring the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, the blessings of our family of faith, and a prayer service. We package this into a visit from one of our friendly ministers to brighten your day.

Requirements:

  • Recipients must reside within the parish boundaries. Call the Parish office to determine eligibility.
  • Requests must come from the person requesting the service or a family member.
  • Requests may also come from the chaplain or social worker of a licensed group home or other facility

Please be aware that most of our San Antonio hospitals have Catholic Chaplains and Eucharistic Ministers who bring Holy Communion to their patients.  Be sure to request these services when you are in the hospital.

Our Lady of Guadalupe “Mothers of Munchkins” (OLG M.o.M.s)
is a support group for all mothers with children of all ages, formed to share and support each other in our ministry as Christian mothers.

After a long Covid hiatus, OLG M.o.M.s is happy to invite mothers back to join us. We welcome you and your ideas for types of activities that would be valuable to you.

We look forward to engaging with mothers of all ages, whether you are in the baby and toddler stage, teenage years, or have older children.

We can all learn from each other and share our experiences – we are all in this same boat together, just at different stages.  As we are constantly learning, growing, and adapting in this blessed role of motherhood, let us share Christian-based perspectives to help raise our children to know God, and to continually nourish their faith.

Group meets in the Guadalupe Room, the 1st & 3rd Monday of the Month.

For more information about becoming a member or about any of our events listed below, please feel free to contact us and/or follow us on social media or click here to find out more information.

We are a group of women (and one man) who sew items for our Outreach program and occasionally for the needs of the parish, through our knowledge, experience, and efforts.

The ability to sew is not a requirement but it helps! We gather weekly to share and laugh, while our hands accomplish tasks. Mostly, we provide pillows to various shelters and agencies in San Antonio, for adults and children, to sleep or to hug.

We also work on baby blankets, lap quilts, cosmetic and toiletry bags, Christmas stockings, laundry bags. The items vary but the purpose is the same – to help others in need, through fabric.

If you might be interested in this type of activity, come check us out and see for yourself. We want to meet you – new faces and ideas are good. No commitment, no obligations, and no charge!

We survive only with donations of fabric, some thread, pillow stuffing, quilt batting, etc. Of course, cash or gift cards are greatly appreciated. For health reasons, we cannot accept used pillows.
