Supportive Outpatient Programs (SOP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between supportive outpatient treatment (SOP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility.

Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Eating Recovery Center empowers patients to take ownership of their recovery and become active participants in their lives. Our Intensive Outpatient program is a flexible eating disorder treatment program that allows patients to work, go to school, or care for children during the day and sleep at home at night.

In IOP, patients are in treatment up to three days per week for up to 9 hours per week. Programming includes nutritional counseling, individual therapy, family therapy, supported meals and more.

Experienced professionals employ a number of therapeutic interventions in IOP, including:

  • Family-Centered Treatment
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment (CBT)

The program also incorporates core recovery principles, values, mindfulness, and connectedness.

The IOP can serve as a step-down level of care, helping to foster a positive transition into activities of daily living for adults upon discharging from our Residential or Partial Hospitalization programs. IOP can also be leveraged as a direct-admit level of care for adult patients requiring a higher level of care from an outpatient setting - allowing them to remain engaged with their lives.

Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers some of the same intensity and structure of Residential eating disorder treatment while providing additional opportunities to practice recovery outside of the controlled eating disorder treatment environment during evenings at home or in peer-supported apartment communities.

Unlike many Partial Hospitalization Programs that only offer 6 hours of eating disorder treatment, 5 days per week, our Partial Hospitalization Program offers patients a full day of treatment, 7 days per week.

By offering a full day of adult eating disorder treatment programming every day of the week, patients are supported through all meals and snacks with ample structure and containment to achieve symptom interruption and/or weight restoration.

Programming in our Partial Hospitalization program emphasizes the development of lifelong recovery skills in a safe, structured, and supportive environment. A well-rounded curriculum offers staff-supported opportunities to practice interactions and challenges outside of treatment through many avenues, including:

  • Interactive group sessions
  • Transitions groups
  • Process groups
  • Art therapy

The Outpatient portion of our program provides our services to clients regularly, for constant support and steady growth throughout everyday life.

At this point in treatment, our guests have reached homeostasis. They have returned to a sense of balance within themselves and are beginning to re-enter the world. They have reintegrated into work or volunteerism, and are enjoying their newfound recovery.

Our IOP experience is meant to support and strengthen this reintegration into a new life of purpose and recovery — while providing continued opportunities for self-exploration and growth.

Addiction to drugs or alcohol is a chronic disease. And like any disease, it requires treatment. At San Antonio Recovery Center, we offer a variety of addiction treatment programs to help those in our community and beyond heal from the effects of addiction and begin to take back their lives.

One of the treatment options in our recovery center is an intensive outpatient program (IOP). An intensive outpatient program can be an effective option for those who can’t take time away from responsibilities at work or home.

Additionally, this level of care is often the best choice for those who have been through residential treatment and are looking for an outpatient program to help them transition back into everyday life.

At San Antonio Recovery Center, we offer personalized treatment and a supportive and welcoming setting. If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, reach out to our team today. We can tell you more about our intensive outpatient program, verify your insurance, and help you access the care you need. Connect with a member of our team at 866-957-7885 or reach out online to learn more.

What to Expect in Our Intensive Outpatient Program:

Typically, patients who are participating in our intensive outpatient program will come to our center for sessions several times a week for two to four hours at a time. They might live at home while in treatment, or they might live in a sober living residence. Sober living is ideal for patients whose living environments are not stable or supportive of recovery. In sober living, residents pledge to maintain sobriety and work on their recovery while living in a structured environment.

Patients receive care and therapies that are best suited to their individual needs as part of a personal treatment plan based on the 12-step philosophy. This approach involves an accurate diagnosis, advanced modalities of treatment, and a supportive, therapeutic environment.

Relapse prevention is the biggest focus of intensive outpatient program treatment, just as it is for inpatient residential programs. We help our patients avoid relapse by creating personalized plans to address the triggers that could lead to drug and alcohol use.

This program, referred to as IOP, is for adults ages 18 and older, and focuses on psychiatric concerns, substance abuse/mis-use issues, or both.

IOP is ideal for the patient who has achieved some stability, but continues to need more intensive treatment. While in IOP, patients will continue to work with their medication management professional.

Our ultimate goal, is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where our patients can continue their road to healing.

Weekly visits with a psychiatrist and therapist are NOT included at this level of care. Patients will receive community referrals for these services.

Hours are flexible, based on each patient's needs.

Innova's IOP for teens meets teens where they are to provide them with the support they need to survive adolescence. Graduates of our Teen IOP have increased communication skills, ability to handle stress, and greater emotion regulation, making them more prepared for young adulthood.

We use empirically proven therapies that are highly skills-based.
These skills will equip your teen with the skills they need to cope with the pain they have experienced in the past, while successfully navigating present day challenges in relationships and school.

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

  • Substance Abuse (Seeking Safety)

  • Relationship Effectiveness
Looks at how past traumas, hurts and losses affect current relationships while learning ways to make healthy connections today and build intimacy with those you love most.

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a “step down” from inpatient levels of care such as detox or residential (rehab), but more intense than the Continuum intensive outpatient program (IOP).

At Continuum, PHP is an intense, four-week program that provides structure five days a week for six hours a day at the Continuum Outpatient Center in San Antonio.

PHP is designed to promote community building, psychosocial skills development, and increase emotional intelligence quotient (EQ).

Through the use of process therapy groups, expressive arts, and yoga, PHP provides a safe and shame-free environment for people to build new life skills and maintain a healthier lifestyle in recovery.

Being discharged from an inpatient program can be intimidating. For many, it means that you are going to immerse yourself back into reality, which might mean facing triggers and your addiction head-on.

Not everyone is ready to pick up where they left off once they finish inpatient treatment. Some people need a little more support for the first month after being hospitalized, and that’s okay. It’s also not unexpected.

Outpatient services often work as a bridge for those leaving inpatient. They can become more comfortable leaving the facility and heading into the real world while returning for therapy and treatment.

But, some people need an extra level of care, which is where an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) comes into play.

What To Expect in an IOP:

When you enter into an Intensive Outpatient Program, there are different requirements you need to meet. These all pertain to the methods of treatment, different activities to participate in, and your overall recovery journey.

In an IOP, you will attend both individual therapy and group therapy. This will allow you to understand your connection to substance abuse better and find mental health support from other people fighting substance use disorder. Community is key.

Through support groups and recreational activities, you can find common ground with other patients. During an IOP, one of our goals is to introduce you to other sober individuals so that you can continue developing healthy connections once you’ve left our facility.
