Become a Hospice Volunteer – You Belong Here

If you are searching for a way to make a difference in the lives of others, you belong here. Hospice volunteers are a valuable part of our care team. Based on your interests and preferences, receive specific volunteer training to help improve the quality of life for others.

From providing companionship at a patient’s bedside, to running errands, and from assisting with administrative duties to creating gifts for patients and their families, one of our volunteer coordinators will help you discover the best fit for you.

  • Hold a hand, share a story
  • Send a card
  • Listen, read, or sing
  • Make gifts for patients
  • Run errands or perform light housekeeping
  • Share flowers, bake, or garden
  • Administrative office support
  • Make phone calls
  • Attend community events

Our agencies offer veteran-to-veteran opportunities and participate in the national We Honor Veterans programs.

Volunteer Training:

Volunteering takes no advanced medical training or great commitment. We support our volunteers and appreciate the important role they play in hospice care. We prepare volunteers with specific training including:

  • The hospice care team and the volunteer role
  • The hospice philosophy and end-of-life care
  • Grief and bereavement education
  • Emotional and spiritual support in hospice care
  • Communication and stress management
  • Patient privacy and other regulations

Medicare requires that a hospice provide at least 5 percent of its services through Volunteers. Our volunteer coordinators will help you discover the best fit for you based on your time, skills, and interests.

Did you know that by 2024, 1 in 3 public school children will be Latino?

That’s why Salud America!at the Institute for Health Promotion Research at UT Health San Antonio is closing the gaps in Latino health inequities to benefit the health of our children, families, community, and nation!

Over the years, Salud America! has successfully:

  • Built a national network of 225,000+ Latino health equity supporters and a digital communication to fuel advocacy actions.
  • Created heartwarming stories and videos of people who have made healthy changes, like Jenny Arredondo who is feeding hungry kids through innovative School Food Pantries in San Antonio, and Minerva Perez who is busting fear and developing mental health services for New York immigrants.
  • Created "action packs" that have helped hundreds of schools add food pantries, water bottle fountains for clean water access, and support systems for students who have gone through trauma at home.
  • Enabled disadvantaged populations to speak up on issues like nutrition guidelines, menu labeling, physical activity, and social justice issues.
  • Trained advocates and students in working toward health equity for Latinos and all people.

Contributions from amazing people like you help us to continue these efforts to change people’s lives and build health equity in our community and beyond.

A gift from you is a gift for healthy people.

At YFC, it’s our aim to grow our ministry to unchurched students - to those in desperate need of the restorative love of Christ. We’ve established a variety of ways for individuals and organizations to join with us, because ministry to students is unique to every community.

We recognize that mentoring is a natural trait of SAYFC Volunteers. Making disciples is what you are called to do and you do it well. However, the moment we translate that to mentoring, some volunteers feel hesitant as they are unsure of expectations. In all honesty, it's as basic as being a friend, being faithful, being present and if you say you will, you will. Make an effort and connect with us to get trained and empowered to become a mentor to a youth in need of a friend.
