Substance use disorders are common among people with serious mental illnesses and put people at risk for many other problems. Many people with psychiatric symptoms choose to self-medicate to alleviate their pain and can develop addiction to drugs and alcohol. If both substance use and mental health illness co-occur, judgement is impaired and individuals are more vulnerable to unpredictable outcomes.

Supportive Outpatient Programs (SOP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between supportive outpatient treatment (SOP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

  • Substance abuse/dependence
  • Adolescents 13-17 years of age
  • Adults age 18 and over
  • Court mandated

Our program’s mission is to provide the tools and support necessary for our clients to achieve lasting sobriety. We do so with a safe, comfortable, and compassionate environment that empowers each client to focus on their own recovery.

The screenings and assessments conducted prior to admission help determine what level of care is recommended to each client who enters our program. Clients who are determined to be both eligible and appropriate for the Intensive Outpatient level of care can expect to receive 3 hours of treatment up to 3-4 times each week for a minimum of 8 weeks. This drug treatment program in San Antonio is designed to help each individual reach their long term recovery needs.

Individual qualifications usually include those who do not require detoxification and have a support system that allows them to adhere to the intensive treatment schedule.

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Eating Recovery Center empowers patients to take ownership of their recovery and become active participants in their lives. Our Intensive Outpatient program is a flexible eating disorder treatment program that allows patients to work, go to school, or care for children during the day and sleep at home at night.

In IOP, patients are in treatment up to three days per week for up to 9 hours per week. Programming includes nutritional counseling, individual therapy, family therapy, supported meals and more.

Experienced professionals employ a number of therapeutic interventions in IOP, including:

  • Family-Centered Treatment
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment (CBT)

The program also incorporates core recovery principles, values, mindfulness, and connectedness.

The IOP can serve as a step-down level of care, helping to foster a positive transition into activities of daily living for adults upon discharging from our Residential or Partial Hospitalization programs. IOP can also be leveraged as a direct-admit level of care for adult patients requiring a higher level of care from an outpatient setting - allowing them to remain engaged with their lives.

Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers some of the same intensity and structure of Residential eating disorder treatment while providing additional opportunities to practice recovery outside of the controlled eating disorder treatment environment during evenings at home or in peer-supported apartment communities.

By offering a full day of adult eating disorder treatment programming every day of the week, patients are supported through all meals and snacks with ample structure and containment to achieve symptom interruption and/or weight restoration.

Programming in our Partial Hospitalization program emphasizes the development of lifelong recovery skills in a safe, structured and supportive environment. A well-rounded curriculum offers staff-supported opportunities to practice interactions and challenges outside of treatment through many avenues, including:

Lifetime Recovery offers adult male and female Outpatient Treatment services for substance use disorders. With a convenient location at the corner of Fredericksburg Road and Crossroads Boulevard, Lifetime is accessible by the VIA Transit system park and ride, five bus routes, and the Primo 100 express service.

Participants engaged in Outpatient services are provided treatment in the least restrictive setting to enable them to continue with their daily lives, such as remaining in their home and maintaining their employment. The miracle of healing and reuniting families happens here.

Lifetime Recovery's residential center is situated on a serene and private 18.5 acre campus in rural southeast Bexar County. This provides the perfect place for those suffering with drug and alcohol abuse to receive treatment for their addictions and maintain long-term sustained sobriety.

This campus is the largest gender-specific residential care facility for men in South Texas. The goal is the restoration of the family by forming better fathers, better sons, better brothers—better men.

Each person who seeks treatment at Lifetime Recovery receives a thorough individual screening and assessment by a licensed clinician to determine the exact nature and the most appropriate level of care.

This process also looks into issues other than chemical dependency, such as physical, social and psychological needs.

These processes help the counselors tailor treatment plans to meet each client’s individual needs.

Men only.

Choose to Change Mentoring is a program offered by the Choose to Change Foundation. We work directly with men coming out of prison and/or men struggling with drugs and alcohol. We are a self-supporting, Christian based program that meets on a weekly basis (one hour meetings). We believe in the life-changing power of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Through our meetings and events, we teach personal development, personal responsibility, and life skills. Drug and alcohol education are key elements of all our programs, classes & events. Membership is completely free but we do encourage donations from our members and anyone that believes in what we do.

Our mentoring program is designed to give people a starting point to a better future. We do not claim to have all the answers but be assured that we do have answers.

A.C.D.C = Accountability, Consistency, Discipline & Courage. These are the core values at the forefront of our program. People, especially men, will be challenged to become more than they ever thought possible. This will be accomplished through our structured weekly meetings, events and a “60 day mentoring challenge” that is available to all members. We believe that people simple need to be inspired, challenged and equipped to believe in what sometimes might seem like impossibilities in their lives.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our program. Please take a few minutes to read through the rest of this page. If you would like a closer look at what we do and why we do it, please give us a call or come by one of our weekly meetings or events. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Our foundational program is a client-centered, strengths-based treatment approach for addiction recovery and other mental health challenges.

Active in Recovery (AIR) utilizes the neuroscience of physical movement with intense physical exercise to induce neuroregeneration and neuroplasticity within the brains of the participants.

This is all done in a team based community setting. The effect of this process in the brain will support an improved capacity to handle stress, a reduction in symptoms of anxiety and depression, improved cognition, social engagement, self-image, and self-esteem.
